Scenarios are fun. Here’s one. Snowball’s chance in hell but it would be one hell of a parlay. Astros 6-0, Blue Jays 0-6, Yankees 2-4, Boston 4-2, Seattle 2-4, Detroit 4-2, Cleveland 4-2.

    1. Astros 90-72
    2. Blue Jays 90-72
    3. Tigers 89-73
    4. Yankees 90-72
    5. Seattle 89-73
    6. Boston 89-73
    Out Cleveland 88-74

I didn’t realize this but Seattle clinches at least a WC spot if they win just 1 game since they have all the tiebreakers and with so many games between WC teams this week.

But really it would be so satisfying to see Seattle collapse against the worst team in the history of baseball this week.

Really depends on Toronto/Boston. If the Red Sox get swept then I think 3-3 makes the Astros a slight favorite. Texas could also play spoiler against Cleveland. Theoretically 1-5 gets them in if Cleveland loses out but obviously that’s incredibly unlikely.

All of those things are unlikely to happen on their own, however given that the teams we’re chasing play each other every day this week, it’s obviously more likely. In fact, the Astros clinch on Thursday if they sweep Oakland, Toronto sweeps Boston and Cleveland sweeps Detroit. One of Detroit or Boston is guaranteed not to get even 87 wins in that scenario.

A Boston and Detroit loss along with an Astros win, it's a 4 way tie at 85-62.

If that happens I'd feel a whole lot better about the playoffs. We got 3 shots at getting in. Just be 1 game better over those last 5 games vs any of those teams.

There is no scenario that we clinch with a sweep of the A's. Closest we can get is Cleveland being swept and then our magic number is 1.

Since August 13, Bregman has an OPS of .620.

    Ouch.

And he wants to opt out of 80 million over the next 2 years?

    What a gaddamn joke.

If all those sweeps I mentioned happen then here are the records going into the weekend. Detroit 85 wins, Boston 85 wins, Astros 87 wins. How do both Detroit and Boston get to 87 wins in that scenario?

    If the scores hold:

    86-71 Boston (up 4-1 bottom 6)
    85-72 Cleveland (up 5-2 top 9)
    85-72 Detroit
    84-72 Houston

Totally forgot they are playing each other to end the season.

Ok well our chances are going up that much higher. Boston losing tonight would go a long way towards that end. Not looking good right now.

Damn AJ Hinch’s Tigers really going to choke away the biggest lead of all time. Can’t believe he didn’t motivate his players better.

Toronto doing us no favors my friend. Astros just have to win.

I think tonight's game determines if we make the playoffs.

The biggest collapse in MLB history, without a doubt.

The Astros better win this game because other results tonight are helpful at all.

They don’t even have injuries to blame.

but Hinch is SO much smarter than the dingbat we have, (yes, he's a dingbat) and of course smart, analytical managers make ALL the difference to make the big bad professional ball players be motivated, hustle and CARE!

A Yankees come from behind win tonight would be great, the pressure on Toronto to win the next 2 games against Boston with the Yankees only 1 game behind would be in play. That's the difference between a bye and being a wildcard team.

It's pretty insane. Detroit was around 10-11 games up over Cleveland during the beginning of September. Now they are tied.

It would be but remember the 1962 Mets only won 40 games and last year's White Sox only won 41 games...worst in the 162 game era. Heck, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders were 20-134. That's impressively horrible. They had to be gambling on themselves to lost to be that bad.
