I think Okogie is the sleeper to grab minutes. He did shoot 38% from 3 last year on minimal usage, but if Reed craps the bed, Okogie will grab a lot of his minutes. Holiday will be exposed as the 3rd stringer he is if awarded significant minutes. Defense is going to have to carry this team if Reed can’t make up for the spot up shots that FVV would have taken. A reminder: our coach is Ime Udoka.
SG and PG depth is super low for the entire league this FA offseason. I would stand pat and wait for a midseason trade if necessary. If we can get Miles McBride for the 2 picks we got for Whitmore, let's do it.
We already have Reed Sheppard, who is an upgrade over FVV along with a team full of guys like KD and Sengun who can do their own thing.
among the available free agent guards, best fit is probably Cameron Payne now, unfortunately the Rockets is about $1M short to sign a minimum contract. Stone should have precisely planed his budget to have that extra $1M to offer a minimum contract for flexibility (e.g. move $1M of Adams 1st yr. money to 2nd or 3rd yr.; or instead of Capella split that money on Al Horford+Malcolm Brogdon; or ... ) Obviously, with so many reporters asked him about the need for one extra ball handler, the lineup looks unbalanced as front court heavy back court short, but Stone just ignore the problem and confidently (almost arrogantly) deny the need for that extra ball handler.
JMO…it might end up being what we have to do,,,but, not what we should do. We can’t give away a year of KD over this.
Yeah that’s what really has me pissed. Almost everyone literally asked him about this and he shrugged it off like it wasn’t a big deal.
Even pretending to think that "losing" a PG with a 51% TS% that the head coach foolishly thinks is an MVP candidate even has the potential to "give away a year of KD" is beyond absurd.
Okogie shot 38% in 25 games on less than 2 attempts per game. After traded to Charlotte He dropped back down to 32% when his volume increased. Basically he is a sub-33% 3pt shooter in his last 3 seasons. His value is defense. Ime will like him. If Reed doesn't shoot significantly better, his minutes will diminish.
You some how misunderstood somewhat. I don't think FVV was the answer...AT ALL. In fact, though I hate to see anyone injured, I was hoping we would NOT sign him ...even for far less money. My point was that IMO we can't use what we have at guard and get where we want to go..even close.
My point was that FVV was really bad and Ime loved nothing more than playing him heavy minutes even when he was incredibly detrimental to the team.... so "losing" him, improves the team. What we have at guard is better post FVV injury than it was pre injury. Now Ime could still **** it up, because he's a complete moron when it comes to lineups and rotations, by starting Holliday or Tate.... but in a world where sanity prevails, what we have at guard is significantly better than what we had at guard last season..... it's not a weakness at all
If Reed starts, we could use an Alvarado off the bench, 20 minutes/11pts. Like who is going to start fights. FaR. Alvarado is +3 in fights above replacement. Brooks and Green gone leaves us empty. 26 technical fouls gone. =( I want my fake nba fights!!!
I don't like Van Vleet but he outplayed your guy Bari .......yes, the money aspect was the most compelling factor but I guess Tilman and Stone said they had Money to burn....so This whole Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4.....etc.....was nice while it lasted.
For $40 mil...he should be outplaying him. He wasn't worth $40...he isn't worth $25...that's pre injury. Don't want to see anyone hurt.
