I think if they go 3-3 they probably have ~20% chance of making the playoffs. Why I said they’d be scoreboard watching praying for other teams to lose.
Whenever I’m on my phone I get this weird glitch that keeps a comment I’ve typed from earlier. I assumed my previous one didn’t go through. Didn’t mean to post that.
You can't ask for a better cupcake schedule to close out the season with a playoff spot on the line....somehow my gut tells me the Astros will disappoint.
Just hoping the pitching holds up and the hitters can take advantage of the band box that is Sacto. Mariners were definitely a better team, so maybe the team going 5-1 before that series is a better indicator of how these next 6 games will go. We can hope...
If the Astros make the playoffs, I will be shocked. If they go 0-6 to close out the season, I will not be surprised.
And throw in some timely hitting. Right now, our players get hot when they have a big lead or nobody is on base. Not exactly "clutch" hitting.
Yordan, Paredes, correa, diaz could be pretty formidable. I do think we need at least one more OF bat. Move Paredes to 1B. Try to trade Walker. Walker’s contract sucks.
Boston going 1-5, Detroit going 1-5 or Cleveland going 2-4. I think I have that chance down to 10%. But even in saying that, I think there is a very real possibility that Cleveland is gonna put Detroit out of their misery by sweeping them, and Detroit will only go 1-5 the rest of the way. In that case, 3-3 and we are in. If we can go 2-1 vs the A's, then I don't think there is a terrible result from the Detroit/Cleveland series. Even with Cleveland going 2-1, then we have a 3 way tie with 2 shots (at bettering one of those 2 teams) over the weekend. But we also can't go 1-2 vs the Angels at that point. So a lot of these scenarios require us going 4-2 this week.
This is by no means a cupcake schedule. A's have been one of the hottest teams since the All-Star break and have owned us this season. Angels have given us issues too and we split the last series aganst them. They're both division rivals which are always tougher and they would love to play spoiler. A cupcake schedule is what the Mariners have..2 teams from the opposite league...the crappy Rockies at home and then a Dodgers team with their division clinched so they will be resting their best players for the playoffs. If we had won 2/3 against the Mariners, I still think we would've lost the division.
