In reality, compared to the completely legal ways lobbying/etc works for hundreds of millions of dollars, $50k is a pittance. Yet there's something about directly handing $50k in cash in direct tit-for-tat that seems worse. And I think it is worse. Because it opens the door to even more corruption. I realize this is the 'broken windows' theory of crime prevention applied to politics. And of course it undermines public confidnce in the system if this stuff can be done with no repercussions.
