Texans have used a 1st or 2nd rounder on an OL 4 years in a row, that's not the issue. The issue is the guys they took all suck, either missed evaluations or poor coaching, that's beyond my knowledge level of OL play but the resources spent have been vast.
That's exactly what I said earlier. Scouting, Coaching, and Luck You can get good OL everywhere in the draft
Sure players matter, but good coaches can get more out of players. Some of the best offensive lines have 5 solid guys not 2 all pros. Almost every single former offensive lineman will tell you that. The technique is poor top to bottom. There are countless examples of bad teams that all of a sudden are good with better coaching and scheme. It happens every single year.
4 man line? That would indeed be a hell of a rotation. Also the 1 is a rookie just like our LT is. I can find other examples, but KC was just the first that popped into my mind.
You are not building a good offensive line full of has-beens, never-weres and discarded failures. That was the Texans’ approach. Please stop defending this as a sensible approach, given what we saw last year, and especially pairing it with an inexperienced OC. It’s an indefensible course of action, and jobs should be lost because of it.
I never said *every* player had to be a premium pick or big free agent addition; I said most have those, though. So, yeah - if 4/5 of your OL personnel is a ~top 60 pick, you’re more than meeting that criteria. I mean… what are we even arguing here? That the Texans sitting on their hands in the draft & digging through the bargain bin for free agents would’ve been ok if only they had better coaching and schemes, which they employed a first-time OC to implement? Come on… they desperately needed an infusion of talent, and they were too dumb or too arrogant to recognize this.
Demeco is the least culpable, only because the defense has been pretty good and kept them in games. The entire offensive coaching staff plus Caserio are the primary reason the beginning of this season has been ass. I'm not saying Demeco has been great, just less culpable than the others. The team is sloppy and undisciplined, and that's on him.
