Yup and we knew we weren’t going to have them this year too, same with Tunsil. Caserio replaced them with 3 rookies + Christian Kirk.

Edit: I’m high on these rookies for what it’s worth but we are going to take our lumps with them more often than not, Ersery being the case in point today.

Wait, so replacing 2 guys that didn't play with a solid vet and 2 promising rookies made the WR corps *worse*?

So improvement from a numbers standpoint alone?

Caserio's fatal mistake last offseason is he approached it as if we were still in a rebuild, when he should have approached it as a refinement.

Refinement means directly addressing the weaknesses that kept you from reaching the next level. Refinement is hiring a seasoned OC and not an experimental one. Refinement is I have a talented young QB on a cheap contract, how do I help make him better?

Who did they replace with worse players?

This is what I've been trying to get you to answer.

The Bears are doing exactly what the Texans should have done with Stroud. They hired a top OC to head coach and invested money and picks into improving their O-line while Caleb Williams is on a rookie contract.

Diggs for one. Metchie maybe? If you’re saying this group is better because they replaced guys that didn’t play, that’s fine. But this is not a good WR corp currently. Coupling that with the OL is a big reason we are 0-3, and that’s on Caserio IMO.

To be fair, Caserio has invested picks in the Oline. He just sucks at drafting

he can’t find talent or coaching. Reason why he has any success is Belichek makes any scrub look good. DD could play offensive line under him.

Caserio spent a lot of capital on aging skill position players. The last draft had some elite WRs. They were in position to draft Brian Thomas. Instead, they traded a second on an aging malcontent who has lost a step. Imagine not being able to play with Josh Allen. It was a real tell when they jettisoned his ass. Caserio gave a second for 9 games of Diggs and over $16 million in dead cap money.
Caserio is the problem. We need to get the taint of New England off of this team, fast.

Caserio gives major Pete Buttigieg, McKinsey consultant vibes, talks like a generic AI but is actually incompetent

Bingo. That New England coaching/front office tree is dead and rotted. Hoodie did nothing without Brady, McDaniels is mid at best, and just about all of the rest have failed miserably. Caserio's time is up.

Hannah should be making her list of GM candidates now. Would love someone from the John Lynch tree if there is anyone out there. Then maybe you give Mike McDaniel a bag to be your OC if he falls out in Miami.

Hopefully you get through the year without completely wrecking Stroud's career, then it's time to make some bold moves like these and push all your chips in. Very similar to when Kubiak finally got an experienced DC in Wade and they made some splashes in FA.

He's doing great at UNC and did wonderful without Brady in New England right? He had one playoff win after Brady left and not much after. He really didn't do much before Brady either. I don't think the Patriots were the engine. I think they had the engine in Brady and we can't copy that here.

Watching the Giants game last night, I was reminded I really wanted Skattebo, but we drafted a CB in late 3rd when he was available (Smith) and then traded up for Marks in the 4th. Marks and Smith may turn out ok or even better, but Skattebo brings an energy and thumper mentality that this offense could have really used. I may be biased because #44 has always been one of my favorite numbers and he has a little of that ol' Riggins mentality that may make him special.

Skatt was who I wanted as well.
Just as good as Marks as a receiver and a much more physical/explosive runner.

Yeah, it won't really matter, if things get bad enough the GM and head coach years remaining in the NFL are pointless.

After all, we are probably still paying Lovie Smith and whatever the name was of that guy we hired to be our head coach that was a tight ends coach (honestly can't remember his name).
