Bruh... In case this is somehow not blindingly clear - that's Nico Collins, all alone - without a single Buccaneer within at least 10 yards of him - at the 11-yard line. It also looks like there was going to be a window to hit Watson in the end zone. And, failing those 2 TD opportunities, I think that's Schultz on the right-side for positive yards. Stroud had *options*. But he froze & then threw a dangerous pass to Nico after he ran into coverage. This was not a play design issue.
I’m still thinking CJ can be outstanding, but I’ve got to admit I’m not as confident as I once was. I’d be lying to myself if I said otherwise. At one point, I really thought he elevated the guys around him, but that feeling started to slip a bit early last season. This year so far, it feels like it’s taken a nose dive. His comment about not having enough time with the receivers threw me off. It didn’t look like an issue in the past, so it’s hard for me to buy that as the reason now. After his rookie year, we kept hearing about how he was such a student of the game. That’s great — but I want to actually see it show up on the field now. I’m still pulling for him as I want to see the guy we thought we had.
I don’t think *he’s* been terrible; he’s not the offense’s biggest issue by a mile. The problem is that the protection and run game - and perhaps the playcalling - have been so bad, he has no margin for error - so the mistakes stand out more.
I’m not even trying to excuse CJ. He has been bad this season and big reason why we’ve scored soo little points. If you pause anything at. A split second it always looks different. Like there wasn’t a 300lb lineman about to break free in your screen shot that affected his ability to throw there. All the hits from last year have gotten to him and he’s just not the same player. Also seems like he doesn’t trust the receivers as much and he misses tank.
Watch the video - at no point in time is there a defender causing any issue. And certainly not if he managed the pocket better: he could easily slide away from pressure - but he drifts backwards, instead. And Nico was open for a really long time. I mentioned he’s hear footsteps - last year has undoubtedly affected him. Again, it’s possible he was looking elsewhere because the play was going elsewhere, and didn’t see Nico. Hard to miss - but OK. But that still isn’t an issue with the play design. 3-4 guys are open.
I don't think our OL is close to being adequate. That said, CJ is missing wide open reads. He's not progressing in the pocket
This is just so bad. I hope CJ turns it around but a miss like this is almost a fundamental flaw. Not something you just fix. Maybe lock him in a room with 2023 highlights spamming on several TVs. He really needs to turn back the clock
Sad to see that his rookie year was his peak year. Still top 10 QB, just not a superstar like we thought he was gonna be. Watson is still the best QB in the franchise history.
Wow, just about every part of this is wrong. Stroud isn't currently performing like he's top 20, let alone top 10. As sad as it sounds, Schaub is still the best QB in franchise history.
I hope we get our old CJ back. I’ve seen more highs than lows this year. As much as people are snapping a picture of his bad miss on Nico. Why don’t you look at when he started the throw on the TD. Look at the ball that Nico should have caught in the endzone. Major anticipation. ifs a new offense. I’m willing to give him a few games to start having his reads and progressions go to automatic mode. He is thinking too much out there and trying to be perfect.
Very easily could put 10 in front of CJ currently. Allen, Lamar, Mahomes, Burrow, Hurts, Stafford, Goff, Baker, Herbert, Dak, Daniels, Love I think are for sure. Purdy, Kyler, Nix, Rodgers are all most likely.
2-0 quite comfortably right now with even 2010 Schaub. He would not have missed Nico wide open like that. Schaub's problem was his noodle arm and sloth speed. Then Fat Albert happened.
