I may not watch his show or anything, but it isn't right to suspend him over what was said so easily. Most likely his show was going to get axed anyways, and this just gave them a reason to end it.

Go look in the Twitter Files and he gave the Biden folks no consideration at all. He posted non stop articles how even merely asking Twitter to take down a post was the biggest weaponization ever and how the government was doing mass surveillance

But when it comes to Trump of course he can threaten a corporation any way they want cuz its trump and nobody can take him serious! Hes definitely a paid troll

This is the exact quote I found online: “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or, you know, there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

You are softening what was actually said quite a bit. He specifically called out action to be taken on Kimmel and said “there’s going to be” consequences, not just “might be”. Now, I suppose what is meant by “additional work” is open to interpretation and maybe that’s what you mean by it not being explicit. I understood it as a pretty clear-cut threat.

in the absence of the transcript, and therefore relying only on second-hand reporting . . . when Carr said, "We can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way," what does the "easy way" mean, and what does the "hard way" mean?

Is the easy way code for: "we will revoke your station licenses"; versus the hard way meaning something more like "we will blow up ABC headquarters with a missile like we do those narcoboats in the Caribbean"?

Or does "easy way" and "hard way" mean something else?

that is what I have seen also. But I would be very, very interested to see the entire interview and/or transcript to situate that quote in context. When he says "We can do this the easy way or the hard way," what does "this" refer to? Without knowing the antecedent to the pronoun "this," I personally am lacking a full understanding of the context of Carr's remarks. And I still do not believe this was a not-so-thinly-veiled threat of "Unless you fire Kimmel, I am coming after you and I will destroy you."

Right you are thinking this 12 ways to Sunday is my point. You are selectively thoughtful, defensive, etc to an overt degree, imo.

Occam's razor to me, the president flat out said he hoped he had a lot to do with it, and there is an obvious mechanism for the administration to have that impact with given the merger.

But maybe that's just my bias.

Yeah, same for me. I added a space into the url so you can see the address. The board software is converting it, don’t know how to stop that.

hey look, I don't even care about Jimmy Kimmel. Honestly this is not a hill I'm gonna die on. But it just strikes me as funny that the network dealt with their "problem" an hour or two after that podcast by putting a leash on Jimmy Kimmel. And now we've got everybody talking about Jimmy Kimmel instead of the Epstein files.

Im with you I couldn’t care less about Kimmel myself, I really think the late shows, short of Conans, suck.

I am disturbed by the condition of freedom of speech right now, as well as the authoritarianism being shown by state and federal government.

"Too much knee jerk reaction" LMAO you spent weeks bashing the biden admin over the Twitter Files claiming it was the biggest censorship in our lifetime and they had weaponized the government. Now when something worst happens everyone is knee jerking and be being dramatic.

Its hilarious you people debate with a known troll whos only job is to same wash Trump

well, I've just started listening to the Carr interview and reading along in the transcript. So far I'm not sure I'm seeing it (the censorship drum that folks are banging on). What I'm seeing and hearing is Carr banging on the "public interest" drum, and making a distinction between the public broadcasting networks (CBS, NBC, and ABC) who have a public interest responsibility--versus other media companies that are not held to that standard. While Kimmel is there and being discussed, I'm not seeing the direct threat to Kimmel and/or to ABC. But I'll have to think on it some more. And I'm not done with the Carr section

I think this is the relevant section that gets to the heart of what Carr is trying to say:

and here is the section that I assume people are saying constitutes a "threat":

Maybe now he will go back to being Ben Stein's sidekick on the "Win Ben Stein's Money" gameshow.
