Man That '19 team was legit like a video game squad. Elite on both sides. Just breaks my damn heart. Awesome sweep though. Keep it rollin, boys.
I live near DC now and cannot bring myself to cheer for, or wear anything related to, the Nationals because of 2019. That Astros team would've been considered among the best of all time if they'd won a damn home game.
we all know the current pitching staff can't replicate what Verlander and Cole did in 2019. I'm just hoping they become lesser version of these twos. also, i'm pretty sure all pitchers were using sticky stuff in 2019 but the juiced balls balanced out the sticky stuff LOL
Detroit in the top of the fourth 1 - 1 So the question for all of you is who would you really like to win this game today? It's actually not an easy question to answer at this point.
The pitching staff outside of Verlander and Cole was pretty sketchy, people tend to forget this. Our 3rd best starter in the regular season, Wade Miley, fell apart in August/September and didn’t make the playoff roster. We were using guys like Josh James and Jose Urquidy, who was a rookie, in key key playoff games. But yes the 1-2 at the top and that offense was really really really good. (But the 2022 Astros pitching staff would shove it up the 2019 teams ass)
It's easy for me, I want the Indians to win. If the Astros can't beat the Mariners in this upcoming series and win the division, they don't deserve to make the playoffs at all.... so give me the shot at the first round bye
Losing Games 1 and 2 at home, with Cole and JV starting was killer. Urquidy and Grienke stepping up, coupled with Scherzer's 2nd start getting pushed to Game 7, helped us stretch that series as far as we did. I swear, Reddick had a grounder off the 1st base side bounce off the bag and into Zimmerman's glove...that bounces any other way, we score more runs that inning and the rest of the pitching management in the later innings changes and we win. Basically, all the bounces we got in Game 7 in 2017 went the other way in Game 7 in 2019.
If ******* Cleveland guy had been running for real the whole time, that's a 2-out inside the park LL homerun
In the end Scherzer/Strasburg won every game. JV lost 2, Cole lost 1. That was basically the series. The 2019 Astros are equivalent to the 2007 Patriots. Two all-time great teams that didn't win it all. Probably the best teams in their respective sports' long history to not win it all.
To your point, Correa also had a ball that bounced back towards the infield vs finding the corner, IIRC (still can't bring myself to watch any replays or highlights).
Urquidy is the franchise all time leader in World Series wins. Greinke was a 154 ERA+ in Houston with 5.4 WAR for the full year. He was well worth getting Luhnow the Thanos meme.
Every team that makes the playoffs earns a spot in the playoffs. There is no need to project your morality on the situation by using silly words like "deserves".
