Apparently I don't. Nor does probably anyone else in this thread.

Can you please provide a link that explains what merger ABC is going through?

ABC isnt going through the merger but nexstar is which has the broadcasting rights on their affiliate. Nexstar owns America’s largest local television broadcasting group.

I should've worded it correctly. Apologies

“the other end of it” — what is the example you have in mind on the other end that compares, out of curiosity?

Free market actors making free market decisions = cancel culture!

Free market actors making decisions under pressure, duress, and coercion of the government = apparently not cancel culture?

this wasn't "insensitive". It was intentionally made to cover for far left exremists who spend all their time online making death threats and fantasize about killing , then go out and assassinate in the name of stifling free speech. It essentially makes him an accomplice to political violence and I'd look into charging him under the RICO act.

at the same time, he has no comedic talent or ratings so ABC was looking for an excuse to stop pouring $$ into him.

@DonnyMost like Kiara says this is all about weaponization of the FTC. Any corporate megers have to get permission from the government. This was always done on a non partisan basis until Trump

So ostensibly Nexstar is the stand in for ABC here since Nexstar carries ABCs broadcast license/rights/distribution for the moment, and the FTC (or whatever 3 letter org) has say over that, and is using this pressure to shape programming?

    Makes more sense.

Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. Paramount did the same thing when they had their merger approved by hiring right wingers demanded by the admin. This is much bigger than just TV news. The admin will weaponize the ftc to force every corporation to capitulate.

Its about to get really ugly

Not sure what was meant by “state sponsored” but it appears the FCC Chair (who is supposed to be politically neutral) threatened ABC unless they act against Kimmel. Hard for me to ignore that being a factor here. Even if it wasn’t a factor, the FCC chair has no business making such threats.

again, Carr called for an apology. ABC acts to suspend Kimmel an hour or two later. What happens to the "state sponsored" theory when Kimmel comes back and apologizes/makes a statement/clarifies his meaning?

By what authority does Carr call for an apology from Kimmel? An apology for what?

I don't think he needs "authority" to question Kimmel's judgment or to suggest an apology

So trump is blatantly using his power of office, and blackmail, to attack “late night” television shows that make fun of him, in my opinion. Those shows are doing what they’ve done for so many decades, from the days of Steve Allen, Jack Parr, and Johnny Carson and all who have followed them, to the present day. Making fun of politicians, with a barb here and there. First Colbert, and now Jimmy Kimmel. Who’s next? It’s censorship, and it is beyond outrageous.

trump is so thin skinned that I’m surprised that we can’t see into his rotten interior, and devoid of a sense of humor. All trump needs is federal approval for a big merger and he uses it to threaten the corporations involved. Some worm who works for him in the White House likely suggested it, and trump is like a kid with a new toy.

Lmao Carr called for an apology. His exact words, "“These companies can find ways to change conduct and take actions on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

But yeah sure he was just asking for a apology lmao. You MAGA are so full of **** that it blows my mind that you're not trolling

He didn't call for an apology. He demanded consequences on Jimmy.

    Nope

It continues the narrative they push to radicalize and justify violence as long as it's against the right. When you tell a trans person who don't believe in their lifestyle and will pray for them and it's not fair to be in women's sports, that's not genocide. That's not violence.

Killing kids at a christian school is violence. Assassinating talking heads is violence. This has nothing to do with your trump obsession. Common sense is coming through
