This is a great point. Who really knows what his motivations were, but that text exchange seems fake as hell. You want us to believe that exchange was from the skibidi toilet generation?
i can count on one hand the number of conservative posters i have seen expressing this kind of sentiment and i wouldnt even need to use all five fingers. most seem to be very excited to use this as an opportunity to go after liberals and many are calling for violence. most are blaming "the left" for kirks murder and calling for reprisals. i have yet to see a single trump supporter acknowledge that he engages in the exact same rhetoric that liberals are accused of engaging in or acknowledge that he mocks democrats when violence is done to them. NOT A SINGLE ONE. i have yet to see a single conservative poster acknowledge that trumpers have committed violence and murder against democrats. ive seen more non-trumpers expressing sympathy for kirk and his family than i have trump supporters. i said the following the day of the murder... but that didnt stop @HTM from telling me that im responsible for kirks death or @Space Ghost calling me a fascist.
Exactly this, nobody did what he did. Many of my friends have this hard to explain feeling of why this is hitting harder than we thought it would/should. Part of it is a feeling of losing a team captain that was just crucial in the political arena, it weakens the conservative voice going forward.
Kirk wasn't a great debater. He debated against ill prepared college kids most of the time. Kirk was an influencer that appealed to narrow minded people that were poorly educated and brainwashed by evangelical churches. He was the Jake Paul of debaters. He cherry picked opponents.
Most of the kids he debated were geared up and ready to go at him with planned talking points, they didn't enter the debate blind. Charlie was just good at exposing the flaws of their ideology.
He was getting long in the tooth for debating 18–20-year-old college kids honestly. However, I am sure that he would have found some other outlet or way to do it. He also was in charge of a very powerful organization. It is like losing Rush Limbaugh in his prime. There is always Candace Owens, she has debated college kids and regular people a number of times and has gotten very good at it. Ben Shapiro is probably more popular than Charlie Kirk was, but he isn't as likeable or palatable as Kirk. Regardless - all I know is that Charlie Kirk did not deserve to be assassinated and his wife and kids did not need to witness it - it was terrible.
Kirk was a 30 year old man that does this professionally debating 18-20 year old college kids --- he better do well against them.
Yeah - Kirk debated a number of people in good faith. Is it possible some of the people he debated were plants? Maybe, but not all of them for sure. There was a time in America where we could vehemently disagree and still be neighbors.
No one that is being objective believes two gay young men, deep into the internet culture wrote those text messages. Those were written by someone middle aged and the discourse isn't even natural. Did the FBI fabricate them? Did some other organization dupe them? IDK - but what I do know is that whomever wrote those thinks the American people and the world is dumb. When I first read the "texts" I laughed at the audacity.
if someone who said these things was my "team captain" id look for a new team. If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified. I can see why people are skeptical about the text thread, definitely not "skibidi" sounding at all. However, the fact the kid was more worried about getting in trouble with his dad for losing the rifle than he was for just killing a man added back some authenticity. He's a hero in his own mind, but does not want to upset his father. Also, not all kids write like idiots via text, my 9th grade nephew texts me in complete sentences. Robinson likely takes himself to be a high intelligence person and probably tries to write like one. Some of Robinson's malaprops like "negotiate out" and "a little while longer yet" also sound like a kid that thinks he's writing maturely but doesn't quite have the language right.
Yours and mine definition of "good faith" must be different. A good faith debate is one in which the participants do the following: 1) Do not misrepresent the views of their opponents 2) Answer their opponents questions readily and to the best of their ability 3) Ask questions which are germane to the discussion 4) Hold their own beliefs sincerely 5) Are actually seeking truth and willing/able to listen Kirk rarely ever engaged with someone without violating one of these primary tenants of good faith. Kirk's "debates" were about as legitimate as WWE or the Harlem Globetrotters are to their respective sports. It was entertainment with little regard for integrity, honesty, or rigor.
This. Kirk was a performative male. Even more sinister, behind the performance was a push to end separation of church and state. What Christian Nationalism means is white, protestant (but not the Methodist Protestant type that approves of same sex marriage) theocracy.
