[AP] Conservative activist Charlie Kirk dies after being shot at Utah college event

It's not rocket science to figure out the chain that can make something like this happen. I don't think it was anything specific Charlie Kirk said but rather that he symbolized the new face of the alt-right to young people.

MAGA has been hitting hard on transgender people using that as a wedge issue - railing against transgender people as evil pedophiles who want to rape your daughters and shoot up schools. There's no doubt in my mind those messages gave cover for people to harass transgender people. And I would not be surprised if the recent school shooting which really was used to turn up the volume in anti-Trans rhetoric increased distress in transgender people and harassment against them.

Now take a young man who probably has some mental issue who grew up with guns - using them and playing video games, and feeling angry about the way his roommate/lover or whatever is being treated, living in bumble**** utah who spent one semester of online college before dropping out (that hotbed of leftist radicalization!) going on to trade school maybe not feeling good about his life, being angry, and oh...look Charlie Kirk is coming to campus!

Charlie Kirk was unlucky somewhat. It could have been someone else on the MAGA circuit who came to speak with the same result. I think Kirk took the fall for what others were preaching.

It's scary. This isn't what we need as a country, and it's being used in political football in an even more dangerous way to turn the temp even hire. These people know they are playing with fire, they are trying to see things on fire.

Just one quibble, and it is that Robinson didn't spend one semester at an online college. According to reports, he actually was a good student in high school and got a 32,000-dollar scholarship to attend Utah State University. But he only spent a semester there before dropping out.

I mention this because I can't understand how he built towards what seems to have been a bright future, only to throw it away in less than a year.

Thomas Crooks, the young man who attempted to assassinate Trump, was by all accounts also a good student who seemed to have been working towards a future. According to the CBS News report below, he was careful to scrub all of his activities online, so that it's impossible to tell what his motives were even after a year.

On the surface, both are quiet men with few friends, who did relatively well in school and seemed bright enough to do well in life. It would be easier to understand or at least define them if they were outwardly unstable and full of rage, with few alternatives.

 

He took all online classes at utah state. He didnt attend any in class courses.

 

Unless the reports were wrong, it sounds like he attended for a semester.
Regardless, he didn't stick around for more than six months.

The 1964 Civil Rights Act WAS a mistake (and blatantly unconstitutional). The government has no business interfering in the private transactions of the people. If someone who owns a sandwich shop only wants to sell to straight white men, that should be his right. If a taxi driver only wants to drive black trans lesbians, that should be xirs right, too. Why is it any one else's concern. The government, because it represents the people, should be required to serve all the people. A private enterprise should be able to serve whoever they want.

The country has been frozen while MAGA has run roughshod over literally everything. People in the USA aren’t used to this and don’t know how to respond. I have seen pushback, mostly by minorities and women - less so by white men, but a lot of men have a vested interest in protecting an administration that wants to return more power to white males.

History tells us there will be a backlash but for how long and how effectively is the question. The Democrats still lack a clear leader.

 

Exactly - if a diner in Louisiana doesn’t want black customers, they should be able to not serve black customers. Hell if all the businesses downtown in a town decide that blacks cannot shop, the town should be able to do that.

Perhaps Augusta decides that only white Christian males should be able to join their club, that’s okay too.

What about homeowner associations, nothing wrong with deciding that only WASPS can purchase and live there.

Maybe a mortgage company decides they only want to offer mortgages to men.

 

Of course you think this way, because even though you are serious about this, you are not a serious person.

Trump and both his "loyalist" FBI guys, Patel and Bongino have all said numerous times that they want revenge, retribution, and pain against Democrats, or anyone who opposes Trump's policies and his views, or criticizes him. That's over half of this country. They are licking at the chops to inflict pain and suffering upon their so called enemies.

When you look at all the sh*t Trump has stirred up since day one it's head spinning. Every damn week he stirs up chaos, confusion, and more BS. From pardoning all those white supremacists and hate group members, to the DOGE and Musk disaster, gutting so many experts, to appointing billionaire loyalists and donors with conflicts of interest into his administration, to putting RFK Jr over the Dept of Health, to some guy with no medical training or experience over the CDC.

He's censoring and removing anything from government with certain "words" and using DEI hire or "Woke" for everyone and everything he's against, to going full blown crazy over windmills and solar power, and the words climate change and global warming. He's on a rampage retaliating against universities, reporters, and the media, and excluding reporters from press conferences. He tried to make Canada and Greenland US territory over and over. Then all the tariff threats and flip flopping back and forth, back and forth.

He's making us a police state with the military to retaliate and flex his power against Democratic mayors and governors. Then he lowers himself to the BS butt kissing and red carpet treatment for Putin, on top of flat out ignoring crimes against humanity by Putin and Netanyahu. What type of psycho posts twisted crap on Truth Social of a Trump Tower and himself surrounded in gold and money in Gaza? Its gross and disturbing.

Then, firing all the black and women Generals, Admirals and leaders in the military to replace with far less experienced loyalists, including his Ken Doll looking wanna be GI Joe, loyalist puppet Hegseth over the Department of Defense. Puppets and butt kissers, those with big money, right wing commentators and celebrities, and those who will lie for him are who he puts in power.

His renaming the Department of Defense, renaming the Gulf, decorating his surroundings in gold and glitter, and everything else is ridiculous. It's mind-blowing that this crap never ceases to get worse and worse and worse. His band of loyalists on the Supreme Court and his loyal lawyer as AG have his back, along with his botox injected loud mouths spewing lies off their lips to fuel the fire.

The list goes on and on and on and on. Every damn day he is lying, conspiring, and bragging about his cruelty and unconstitutional acts. Meanwhile, it all distracts from the Epstein files, his coddling of Ghislaine, and the hundreds of deals and conflicts of interest his whole family is making billions on at home and abroad.

 

Because nearly every business benefits from the gov't and tax payers - that sandwich chop still benefits from federal highway dollars for instance. It still benefits from federal laws and protections funded by taxpayers. No one has complained about these laws for the last 50 years, until now.

 

I have two minds about the CRA.

On the one hand, yes it is blatantly unconstitutional and having the government coerce how private individuals non-violently interact with each other is an almost universally bad idea.

On the other hand, I wasn't alive when **** was so bad that the majority of America felt like this legislation was needed to push us out of the darkest ages of slavery's shadow.
