I think Giannis proved that he is a phenomenal outside passer, he has won a chip passing to the shooters. I disagree with Alperen this time. Only that Giannis is not a versatile passer but the passes he should do, he does exceptional. I never heard Alperen criticize his friend Jalen Green's passing, which I think is inferior to Giannis'.
@daywalker02 Alpi didn’t comment on Giannis’ overall passing skills. In FIBA, since there’s no defensive three-second rule, defenders can clog the paint and create a crowd. When an offensive player gets triple-teamed in the paint, the absence of this rule makes it harder to pass the ball to a teammate. A few days ago, Turkish coach Ergin Ataman made a trolling remark: ‘Give me Şengün (meaning: Panathinaikos + Şengün) and I’ll beat the Houston Rockets.’ It was trolling, but there was some truth in it. Under FIBA rules, you can really lock down opponent star players badly. That’s exactly the kind of environment where the passing skills of Jokic and Şengün, which we love so much, came to shine. Because in this setting (if you don’t want to get trapped), you need even better passing skills than in standard NBA games. And Şengün was right. Turkey’s team completely shut Giannis down in the paint in that game, and yes, you have to be a great passer to save yourself from such a defense. One more thing: Giannis' response was this: "I'm a good passer. Just check YouTube videos." The problem is that those YouTube videos are mostly from NBA games.
Giannis is upset because deep down he knows it's true. If Sengun said Giannis isn't athletic, he'd have just laughed it off.... the truth hurt him badly.
Noone said that Run and Dunk man is the new Yinka Dare. Alpi just said that while he is a great player, his passing is not that great. And that's true, especially in FIBA. He throws some passes like he wants to murder his own teammates. Against Türkiye he had 5 assists and 5 TOs. His average in the tournament was 4.1 assists to 4.4. TOs lmao.
Neither Alpe nor Giannis has a 2nd best lead guard, I know Larkin came close but you cannot rely on him in multiple tournaments. The Passing is only a talking point, it makes good conversation ..... the passing still has to come mostly from the guards.....high post passing helps but it is not the bread and butter of basic basketball. Connective passing is probably a better word and Giannis has to get better and consistent at it. SGA/Nembhard/Jamal Murray On Team US you just name two....
That's not why you don't like it. It was said after the Greece gam when question was asked. It's nothing different than Giannis saying Sengun was slow in the post but it worked for him in their 2022 match up.
It's difficult to talk trash when you haven't won anything in the league. As much as I think Giannis is an overrated NBA player, he has still won the awards and championship to back it up. He went crazy in the finals, even though they definitely would've lost to the Nets if Harden and Kyrie weren't injured. He took his chance and went for it in a weak east that year (outside of Nets). Sengun should know the media always take quotes out of context and unless you talk like Jokic, haters are going to flock to you. Personally, I don't enjoy being the most hated team in the league like the Harden Rockets were. Sengun already has a reputation for crying too much about fouls. We know he always throws his hands up when he doesn't get a call. Ime knows it too. I just think he should keep it in check or refs will always find a way to come back to screw you over when it counts.
Were the warriors kerr steph draymond hated for all their crying and whining and moving screens and draymond antics? They won multiple rings Rockets gonna get hated regardless Sengun stop crying and focus on playing
