Franz only looked better because he played with Schroeder

Give Alpi a Shroeder type player and Alpi will look just as good as Franz

I've seen Wemby's mama pics. No thank you. Much better looking old mamas out there.

    Draya for example :D.

This summer experience, having to lead his national team, is probably the best thing Sengun could do to grow his game. That is, until he starts sharing the court with Amen and Durant. When they all get to work together day in and day out, we're going to see something special.

Germany had that extra gear, had several games when they turned the tides in the 4th.

They were also the more experienced team. They kept cool after that first attack where Türkiye went 13:2. Same happened to the Greeks and they started running around like headless chickens and never recovered.

And then during the long stretch where Türkiye led 76:70 (this was the phase where Alpi imo made bad mistakes because he prematurely tried to seal off the game, instead of sharing the ball), Germans just waited patiently for a moment where they could attack and take the lead.

Ngl I am disappointed but it was such a good game. Alpi made some very impressive and smart plays. He also hit 5/6 FTs and finished the tournament with 75% which is a very good sign for the upcoming season.

I always said that Türkiye reminded me of a newer Germany team with Sengün and postplay instead of Franz Wagner and less championship experience.

    Before all of this Eurobasket.

Nonetheless the Olympics would be stacked again with France and Wemby, Gobert, Canada, USA, Dominican Republic, Bahamas (Ayton) etc.

I am afraid that this year might have been the best shot he had at a gold medal. His international career could be similar to Nowitzki who had some insane performances but his supporting cast was always too weak to beat the top teams. Cedi is already 30, Larkin is 32. Maybe Ömer Kutluay could be the co star to Alpi but he is still very young and (for now) I am not that high on him.

But I hope Türkiye keeps Ataman and starts to build around Alpi. Prime Alpi + decent role players can still go very far at the next WC and EuroBasket.

I love Alpi as a player and I was a fan of his game before we drafted him...I've always though he would be at least a very good NBA player....But I grew skeptical about him becoming an A1 franchise guy that could lead a team to a ring..

His play this summer cracked that door back open in my mind and gave me some hope that he can reach that level.

    In eurobasket 2025:
Alpi became the youngest player in EuroBasket history to record a triple-double.
He scored 114 points in the paint, the most in the tournament.
With 57 offensive rebounds, he secured more than any player since EuroBasket 2022.
He posted 10+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 5+ assists in five games, the only player to achieve this in the last 30 years.
In the game against Nikola Jokić's Serbia, he delivered a standout performance with 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists.
He (with Ercan Osmani) destroyed Giannis' team.
In the Eurobasket final game, he was the best scorer with 28 points.
And he is just 23 years old.

It was a great summer training for the young fella. A real tournament experience, a real test for seeing his own pros and cons.

Woke up at stupid hour and watched the last 5 minutes of the game. Gutted about how it all fell apart down the stretch for the Turks.

Channeled Clyde Drexler when Alpe blanked that layup for the lead. "GOTTA DUNK IT"

Anyway that was a fun run. Eurobasket is a legit entertaining tournament, well worth the $40 dollarydoos it cost me for a Courtside 1891 subscription.

And one final thought because Giannis/Bucks fans are still crying about Alpe's comments: Are we sure he didn't say Giannis isn't a great passer just before playing him so Giannis would go out and try to prove him wrong and pass all game? Seems to me like Alpe was playing mind games and wanted Giannis to try to drop dimes instead of looking to score.

Alpi made that comment after the game, not before. The interviewer asked him, “How did you manage to hold Giannis to 12 points?” Şengün replied, “Giannis is one of the best players in the world, without a doubt one of the very best, but he’s not a great passer. That’s why we went after him as a team (what Alpi meant here is that they kept throwing double-teams and triple-teams at him). We helped each other as a team to stop him”

Indeed, these comments praise Giannis. He implies that the entire Turkish team fought to stop Giannis. But you know, it’s 2025. Various online profiles and websites pulled just the phrase “not a great passer” out of all those comments and blew it up for clickbait.

Giannis was shut down by Ataman and the Turks, all he could do is pass....which is not his strong suit either.

Didn't realise it was a post game comment. Makes me think even more so that Alpe was revealing the game plan more than having a dig at Giannis though.

That's where it all started I suppose. Such a heartbreaking loss.

We all did. Coach showed up with red eyes and very tired face. Most probably he had 0 sleep. Too much hype turns into anxiety and puts you out of flow too.

Germans were clockwork as they always are. They came back with a backup plan after 1st quarter push from atamans main idea. They didn't break like Greeks did. Türkiye led the game mostly but in clutch Germans were simply calm and collected. Bonga shot like possessed, even theis hit a 3 in 4th quarter, his first try in the match.

Well, we have phrases like "begin like a Turk, end like a German" for a reason. We should have won, it was within grasp. It lost me sleep to see cedi play through injury with all his courage, do so well in the final as well and burst into tears after match.

Kudos to Germany and Wagner. He deserved the MVP.

This I think summarizes it very well, what happened in the last minutes. It was disappointing, but it's part of gaining experience.
