We're seeing the maturation of the competitive spirit he showed even in his rookie season in this Eurobasket run. Flexing in superstars faces. Taking it way more to heart when we lost than anybody else. Sengun is one of those athletes who really wears his heart on his sleeve when he plays, and I agree it really does seem contagious. Even more than his considerable skill, his mentality/personality may be the most valuable asset he has tbh. His energy when he's cooking is electric.
He really does deserve his nickname tbh. Who else could even do that move at anywhere near that size? Prime Dwight maybe?
Dwert could not contort his body at least not Kobe and MJ style......he was a straight dunker, and could multi jump like Amen......without losing much time - rebound his his own misses multiple times.
I dunno, his dunk contest dunks would suggest he's more agile in the air than you're giving him credit for tbh.
He looks good, but the Euro game isn’t the NBA. Lots of home cooking. He’s tradeable, just not for the untouchables
There is no way in the world Stone is dumb enough to do that. Sengun is getting better all the time and is still 2-3 years away from his prime. Giannis has at the most 4 years of prime left. Prime Sengun may very well be better than prime Giannis. Making such a trade would considerably shorten our window from a decade plus to 3 - 4 years. Only the Dallas GM is dumb enough to make a trade like that.
I don't think there are any possible practical trades for a superstar before around the trade deadline anyway due to the cap situation, new contracts not allowed to be traded yet, etc, so talk about trading him for anybody before then is kind of a moot point. I'm glad for that, I want to see how this squad gels and what kind of steps forward our younger players take before we change anything.
Yea, I was on board with Sengun + picks for Giannis after last season but now I'm not taking that trade at all. Giannis already looks a step slow at 31, makes sense since so much of his game relies on athleticism. He's going be like Westbrook, probably at 33-34, he's gonna look washed. He'll start bricking layups and won't be as much of a factor on defense. Sengun, in this EuroBasket looks like he's really worked on his game in the off-season. He's 23 this year and looks like he'll take the leap to all-nba if he can transfer everything over from shooting, ball handling, more passing.
Wait what? You lost me by the third sentence. What are we talking about? You thought a 22-year-old was at his peak???
OK. So I was being a bit ironic, but truth be told, 22 was my peak and it's been a slow, very slow, not steady, and often painful decline since. But to your point, at what age should we say "he's at his peak"? It's a fair question to ask in the dog days of the offseason. Seems to me different players peak at different ages. Jalen? Peak? Maybe so maybe no. I guess it's "he's reached his ceiling!" Alpi's ceiling keeps getting higher whereas Jalen looks like he might have already his his.
Not tryna be rude but this would be dumb. I bet Phoenix said the same thing. Hell I know the Bucks were like "if you pair giannis with dame". They both ruined themselves thinking like that. Dont do that to the Rockets. The NBA is going thourgh a youth movement getting a bunch of old guys now would be dumb and could cause us to miss the boat.
Age is obviously not the only factor, so I can't say specifically at what age he will peak right now. And truth be told, some pros do technically peak at 22 (or maybe even sooner) if they don't have the work ethic to keep improving, or get injured, or just were not good enough to be in the league in the first place. But I think, especially given his career trajectory up to that point, it is just crazy to have any level of confidence whatsoever that Sengun wasn't going to keep improving for a while. Sure, he was kinda stagnant this year by some measures, but offensively, the entire team got worse. If he stays healthy and keeps working hard every off-season, he could very well keep getting better even into his early 30s. It's not an uncommon pattern for MANY of the durable greats, including some of our very own here in Houston.
with all due respect... why r folks always obsessed with 'the new movement'... bigs are unplayable, all about the 3 ball, defense doesnt matter... its a copycat league and if we want to be just another in the pack tryin to do the same thing - i'll pass... if everybody is doing a 'youth movement' - cool, gimme all those undervalued cagey vets and lets school all these youngster teams... lol. Honestly, it drives me crazy every year how everybody wants to follow the flavor of the month... imo there are always a few ways one could build a championship team - dont tie yourself to only 1 methodology... Obviously we were following 'the process' - fine, we had the picks, it was logical... but if u get a chance to pair Giannis and KD - its worth considering imo... Shaq was like 32 when Heat traded for him - that worked out for 'em, right? Obviously it shortens the window - but if we can grab a chip or two - that is the goal, right?
I get the op's sentiment. It's the proper way to proceed but after the Luka trade no one is untradeable
