Moulton demands Trump rescind Jan. 6 pardons after Kirk assassination

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., demanded that President Donald Trump rescind Jan. 6 pardons in response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

"If the president is serious about stopping political violence, then maybe he should start by rescinding the pardons for all the domestic terrorists who came to the Capitol on Jan. 6 to kill cops, to kill Speaker Pelosi, to kill, to kill Vice President Pence," Moulton said Thursday.

Asked by Bolduan if he believes the political temperature can be brought down, Moulton said Republicans are not doing enough to condemn violence.

"Only if we all look ourselves in the mirror, and I‘m happy to stand here as a Democrat and absolutely condemn the violence on the left," Moulton said. "I have no hesitation in doing so.

"But people like Warren Davidson and Donald Trump need to condemn the violence on the right as well," he added. "Not defend the attackers on Jan. 6. Not lower the flag across the nation for conservative activist Charlie Kirk but refuse, refuse to lower the flag when a Minnesota lawmaker was murdered in her home, refused to go to the funeral, refused to acknowledge it.

"There are people who are trying to polarize us further, divide our nation further and just blame the left, even while those of us on the Democratic side are, by and large, saying we all need to turn down the rhetoric."

"So, let's be serious about where this violence is coming from," Moulton said. "Of extremist violent attacks in America, extremist violence, violent murders, 76% are from right-wing extremists, 4% are from left-wing extremists. I condemn that 4%. But we also need to be honest about — as a nation — about where this violence is coming from.

I'm just talking out of my ass, but this feels very different from the other shootings.
Usually, the shooters seem to be unstable people who don't have much of an exit plan because they want to go out in a blaze of glory.

But it sounds like this shooter was very organized.
He picked a relatively small event with very little security (six police officers on hand, plus Kirk's personal security detail) and probably few security cameras.
He chose a spot on an unattended rooftop that apparently had easy access to the nearby woods, so that he could take his shot and then immediately disappear into the forest. Perhaps he even came in from the forest in the first place.
He wore non-descript clothes and seemed to have been careful with the security cameras. It looks as if he was careful not to look up or touch the railings.
He left very little evidence behind, and I'm guessing the weapon won't give the FBI much information either.

I don't know why they described him as a college-aged individual, because from the images he looks like he could be in his late 20s or even 30s.

I hope they catch this guy, but it looks like they have their work cut out for them.

A white man killed Charlie Kirk. All the assassination attempts on Trump have been by white men. A white man shot those kids in Colorado 2 days ago and shot up a naval academy yesterday. It’s white men who wanted to hang Mike Pence.

So they’re gonna fight back against themselves?

When they say white man, they mean straight white racist christian nationalist. Most of them are too stupid to know the actual ideology they've been indoctrinated into, so they see themselves as just oppressed white men, even though as you say they are fighting other white men. But they will take it out on "woke" and "DEI" - black, Hispanic and non-straight people.

No one other than guys like Putin despite how much you disagree with their beliefs. This country is so divided, I can't fathom how we recover. It's not the beliefs but how we discuss our disagreements.

One of my best friends is Republican and we talk politics all the time without getting all angry with each other. We can admit when someone is an ******* from either party. The issue is we label anyone that doesn't agree with us evil, and we care about winning a debate more than discussing issues. It's team/identity politics with intellectual dishonesty that is the issue. It's the act of trolling to just troll knowing full well it's going to make the other side dig deeper.

I feel bad for Charlie Kirk's family. I feel bad for all the students that had to witness that.

He hated everyone. I don't think he should have been assassinated and I feel bad for his family but he was a terrible human being. Unfortunately, he is had influence because there are lots of other terrible human beings in the world. This crap started with Rush Limbaugh. He was the original influencer.

 

I could be completely wrong, but I wouldn’t be shocked if this guy turned out to be a Trumper. The right wingers would probably never accept this, but it could be the case. The guy is deeply troubled regardless of his motives. He may have thought that making a martyr of Kirk and implicating the left would serve a purpose. But, who knows? It may be exactly what it looks like on the surface. He may have just really hated Kirk.

 

Just look up the rationale and reasoning that Timothy McVeigh gave for the OKC bombing. Your theory would not be out of line of a long history of similar acts of violence.

The rush to weaponize for political power is likely to be remembered in history as one of the most disgusting acts of cynical and depraved politics we have seen. Even if this shooter is best buds with AOC and reads Lenin, it still does not excuse the disgusting reaction to weaponize the situation against political rivals.
