I think it depends what you consider a "big" I guess. Jokic Giannis That's where I think it stops being clear cut, and the next rankings are the debatables where they've currently achieved more but Alpi could easily leap to clear 3rd so the next groups is: Sengun (who I'd put next but I'm a biased Rockets fan) Wemby KAT Banchero Embiid (who should be in the group above but just isn't with the injuries)
You are assuming All-Star is one single level. That's clearly not true. You can take a leap from "just make it" all star to a perennial all star without making All-NBA. That said, Sengun's situation is totally different from Schroder's. Schroder at age 30 had been playing in FIBA competitions for a long time. He had no upside when he won the World Cup MVP. Sengun is only 23 and is already playing at the level of Giannis and Jokic in this year's Eurobasket. And it's not so much about how he is dominating in Eurobasket. It's more about the way he plays now shows a lot of improvement (e.g. outside shots, handles, etc.) from what we were seeing him play in the past few seasons. It's a projection. There's no guarantee. But the upside is there to see.
Forget shows improvement, the people who don't get it clearly are not watching Eurobasket at all. He moves completely different. I wish I could do well with the search function because I genuinely said several times over the last few years "European youth athletes don't train for athleticism in the same way as USA athletes, wait til his fitness/athleticism catches up" and it looks like it has. He's gone from a very mobile looking center to a genuinely agile looking power forward to my eyes. The people throwing the Ginobli comps around aren't wrong at all, I never saw it until Eurobasket because he still moved like "a big" but yeah this agile, fast, spinning Şenhub **** is the truth. He looks like a really big point forward, his whole playstyle when he's allowed to cook in Türkiye's system is a world apart from last season. If Ime capitalises on that then we've got to be some of the strongest contenders tbh.
That is quite impressive. It would be better if they did separate plots for each position or at least color code by position rather than team logo.
I am sure that will translate to the NBA quite easily. Get ready for 14 straight 3s in rockets practice by Sengun tweets.
My favourite thing about the video is that little bounce he's doing towards the end. He's not thinking about it. No hesitation, no little hitches, no overthinking the shot. He looks so natural and confident when he's shooting that he actually looks like a shooter and not like somebody who's supposed to be a poor shooter at all. That's the best sign of all for me. If he has that dialled in and that confidence then god damn we could be in for a pretty special season, and I don't feel like I'm even overhyping that as a Rockets homer either tbh.
I never said he was at the top of it, just that he's in that tier. Like it or not, he put up real scorer numbers and the same assists pretty much as Alpi last season and he's got a season less in the league. I don't particularly rate him much myself now either (though I did want him at the draft, I actually do think Chet's probably the best of the 3) but the objective view puts him there.
No matter the result against Greece, it’s good news for Houston. The EuroBasket games make it crystal clear: Şengün’s touch is back — and it’s even better than before. Remember the night he dropped 45 on Wemby’s head? We might see that kind of performance over and over again this season.
If they play him at the 4 you could see legitimate bloodbaths in the first couple of quarters leading to even more distributing later on when he's doubled. With his combination of size and agility there's very few people who play the 4 who could guard him, and the ones that can are most likely players who'd switch to him at the 5 regardless. Too big for the 4's and too fast for the 5's is a great combination to be tbh.
LOL, the poor haters! Both the data and the eye test show Sengun is great in both offense and defense!
This is utter nonsense, nobody has a 35% rim defensive field goal %, and alec burks is not a miles better rim protector than guys like Hakeem and Gobert. nvm, didn’t realize it was only playoffs so just a few games
It seemed so absurd so i went and actually looked, then i relooked at the image and whoops. Chet was the best i found at around 53%, rudy has put up some high 40s back in his prime. Any chart that has alrc burks as the best rim protector will be silly no matter the context though.
Nowhere on the chart it says they are ranking rim protectors. They are just providing visuals for playoff stats. You are making the jump that these stats tell you who the best rim protectors are. It literally says ‘numbers back up’. It doesn’t say it proves or shows. It is just another piece of small evidence that supports Sengun’s improvement. edit: bradeux is the clown who tries to do that though. Just noticed his comment below.
opponent rim FG% is a big part of rim protection. Obviously prevent rim attempts is the most important (which is what made someone like dwight so special), but the % is critical as well.
