Yeah this is just something to get through to the season. Who cares if they win. Would be great if they did though.

Having lived in both countries, my intuition suggests Greece will win. You can see the basketball obcession in every corner over there.

It seems they won 9 games out of 10 since 06.

Let's see if Alpi makes a difference on this occasion.

Refs will decide. So it is Greece.

Algün sounds more attractive then Alpi. Just calling him gün is pretty solid. Goon is a pretty solid nickname for the American ear.

I also like Big Al, throw back to Jefferson who was a similar player too.

Except now "goon" has taken on an, um, entirely different context in Gen Z slang

    I think I'll stick with Alpi :p

Hearing that Alpi has offspring made me think...

    Alpi's Nickname: "Your Daddy!" .... o_O

Imagine hearing these lines on National Games:
    Your Daddy for two....
Your Daddy has really improved his 3pt shot this year...
Your Daddy with a behind the door pass...
Your Daddy takes it to the rim....
Your Daddy just took over this game....
Your Daddy has really improved his D.....
Your Daddy with a spin move....
Your Daddy just had another triple-double....
Your Daddy should be mentioned in the MVP race....
Your Daddy is "H TINE HOL IT DINE!"
"Mama there goes Your Daddy" ...... (Mark Jackson spin-off)

Literally, the lines write themselves.... ;)

    Go Rockets!!!

    .......
    .......
    .......

I haven't been able to watch most of the tournament. How big of a deal is losing Cedi Osman?

Well, imho he s second or maybe third most important player. He made most 3 pointers in the tournament and he s shooting them with %50. After alpi, cedi and larkin our player quality drops significantly. Furkan is just a shadow of his glory days and bona while being an athlethic freak, still too raw.

His nickname Gooner will stick. Be sticky. Something like that.

Goon works well for most English speaking countries I think tbh, does it not emphasise more of a physical player though? Like Dillon could have that name in my head haha. Still better than Wizard though.

Cedi probably has the best body type on Turkey's team to put in front of Giannis. Not having him would be a huge loss.

OK, I've been thinking about it for a day or two and here's what I've come up with.

    Alperen "The Monsoon" Şengün

You know, because he's raining threes. Or he floods the stat sheet. Or, why not both?

    Alperen "The Citadel" Şengün

Because he's a fortress that protects the city--franchise player if you will.

    Alpi "Pasha" Şengün

    Because he's the Turkish General.

    Alperen "The Sublime" Şengün

    Because he inspires awe.

    Alperen "The Treasurer" Şengün

    Because he dispenses dimes.

    Alperen "The Judge" Şengün

    Because he holds court.

    Alperen "The Sensation" Şengün

Because, you know, he's a sensation.

    Alperen "The Turkish Hammer" Şengün

Because he's always dunking on people.
