Li'l Quinquin (Bruno Dumont) is one of the most ridiculous films you will ever watch. The movie clocks in at a healthy 3h 26m of existentialism that mainly follows Commandant Van der Weyden in his search to piece together a crime of passion: a woman was cut to pieces and stuffed in a cow. Apparently it was originally a mini-series, but it is now presented as a film.
I'd score it: 9.8 out of 10. This, I would consider a masterwork film, and yes, it is somewhat a slow burn. Even moreso the fact that there are very few moving parts to it. The title refers to a kid: Li'l Quinquin (Alane Delhaye) who acts, to some degree, as Van der Weyden's foil. And is concerned mostly with his Girlfriend: Eve Terrier (Lucy Caron).

This is why foreign films are great. And Bruno Dumont is a director of the highest order. This, as I mentioned before, is part of a trilogy that includes another 3 hour mini series: Coincoin and the extra humans and empire.

Do yourself a favor and give this one a shot.

    Wind River (2017)

Came to Netflix recently. Hawkeye and Wanda teams up to solve murder at a Native reservation in the winter. Enjoyed it for the most part. Some solid action in the 3rd act.

It's totally ok to be totally wrong.

...and you focused on the "acting"?

I hate to break it to you, but Aliens has some of the corniest acting of all.

For someone new to the Alien franchise, the original Alien doesn't hold up well to modern movies. The pacing is much slower, dialogue is a bit cornier. For the time it was created, it was great. And I think after watching all the other movies, someone new could learn to appreciate the original Alien more.

Um, Independence Day was better than all those movies… also, the Nolan movies. Maybe those are the best pre 2000 movies?

The Occupant - 3/10 - Maybe doesn’t even deserve a 3. It’s said to be science-fiction, but absolutely zero about what happens has any real life implications and only serves the purpose of a simplistic metaphor for struggle and dealing with some real life issues. Could’ve been a 75 minute movie instead of 105 easily since the pacing is off, they don’t explain anything about what is going on or what is supposed to be in her head or what is real and since my takeaway can only be that the main character endured all of it to show struggle and acceptance, then what was the ****ing point of making this movie this way? It only get a 3 and not a zero is because I read a review that explained it this way and then I could kind of live with is, also because the main actress is solid.

    "Clean" with Adrien Brody

Adrien Brody is good at pulling off his own vigilante justice action star film. He's just such a great actor and I totally bought into his character creation here. Glenn Fleshler also pulled off an intense good "bad guy" in the film. It draws elements from other similar films and makes them its own. This film gets down and dirty in scenes. It doesn't try to glamourize the violence with insane choreography that is completely unbelievable like in other films. It's more believable and brutal imo. I give it a B+. On Tubi.
