THERE IS ZERO plan .....ZERO it is every man for himself.....we need patient hitters, we need base runners......and we get free swinging morons. DD
As has been said, overall, I am at this point, just glad that we are still in it all, despite all the injury issues this season. So we are in it and things can turn around quickly. There is your platform.
Debating. Do I buy tickets to mariners Astros Saturday game now or wait till we lose 8 in a row before the tickets go on sale? I’m serious.
Honestly starting to sound like the right move. We don’t want the Astros to become the Texans trying to go 8-8 every year. The championship window feels closed and I’d rather we cash in on the chips we have. We’re gonna lose Framber this off season and get nothing in return.
Yikes......another heart-breaking loss and another pitcher who is probably out for the next year. Abreau is awesome in the 8th but lets be honest, he is not a closer and asking him to be one is setting us all up for failure. I think wearlier this season we had all the injuries and luck was on our side, but now we cant catch a break. The Rangers and Mariners seem to be getting hot at the right time and we are heading in the opposite direction. With all the injuries to our pitching staff, we have to look at changing how we "create" spin rate. IMO the Astros need a new voice, Espada did what he could do and isn't horrible but not the right man for the job. We have some good young core pieces but were at a crossroads with a few players, do we trade some talent for prospects or do we do something unconventional like getting rid of Walker (not easy), trade Pena or Yordan for assets? Altuve is a wild card, Astros LEGEND who is now a liablity at the plate, in the field and on the base paths and we have him signed for 4 more FRIGGIN years................4 MORE FRIGGIN years, I am afraid there is not much we can do about that. I will watch and cheer for my team but I am not sure we even make the playoffs at this point and TBH if we dont that will just bring the inevitibul to a quicker end. Lots of things to fix but we have some bright spots so its not all doom and gloom......I dont know about ya`ll, but I have become spoiled over the past decade but I think our window is closing
They will get a draft pick for Framber. Who knows what they could’ve gotten in trade last offseason but at least they will get something.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. There’s NOTHING we’ve seen all season that shows promise. Even IF we squeak into the postseason there’s NOTHING that shows anything that we’d make a deep run. I’ll obviously never root for the Astros demise as a die hard fan but missing the postseason might wake this team up. Espada had a nice little run earlier in the season but overall he needs to go IMO. Regardless of injuries I just don’t see him as a championship manager. Such a depressing season.
Season feels done. Injuries took their toll. Team feels tired. Not sure why, but they feel like there playing on dead legs with the mental errors and what seems a plan to just swing at a first pitch no matter where it is the first at bat. Team was better when they worked counts. I am not sure why that philosophy changed.
You have to have hitters that are capable of working counts and hitting with two strikes. Those hitters will have a profile that involves a great recognition of the strike zone and very little chase. That's not Altuve, Pena, Yainer, and Dubon - they are all towards the bottom of the league in chase rate and clearly don't have great recognition of the strike zone. Christian Walker was supposed to be one of those hitters that works counts but pitchers don't fear him anymore - they know they can blow the fastball by him on the upper rail. His walk rate has significantly declined and IMO he's chased more this season because he's trying to catch up to those fastballs.
Bagwell and Brown tanked the team. Went with baseball guys. Lots of bad moves and choices. Even the guys Brown has drafted have been striking out a TON.
They have 2 elite SP and a hall of fame hitter in Alvarez. So they definitely would have hope to win any 3 game series, and would be competitive in a 7 game series. Let’s see how Javier, Alexander, and Blubaugh look over their next 2-3 starts each. I agree the injuries have decimated this team, the offense looks lost, the bullpen and rotation shallow. But there’s hope. The AL is wide open.
Agreed. Had Abreu gotten one more out yesterday we'd be talking about the great performance by Blubaugh and the bullpen, the potential to catch Toronto, etc. The injuries are likely just too much to overcome, and the impact will be felt next year also, but the level of pessimism is far too high right now. There are no juggernauts anywhere in baseball now and likely won't be next year either. We are and will remain in the mix.
Hunter Brown, Luis Garcia, AJ Blubaugh, Jason Alexander, Cristian Javier. Put Framber Valdez on the Suspension List
The level of pessimism is high right now because it's looking more and more likely this team isn't even going to make the playoffs, where I do agree anything can happen.
