I am hopeful that Caratini is re-signed. I value him as a versatile bench player, He is more than a back up catcher. He has value at other positions and is a situational bench bat as well. Two years plus a mutual option for a third seems fine to me.
I don't think diehard fans of any team - me for the Astros included - realize how much frustration and parity there really is across baseball. We see our meltdowns, our injuries, our managerial failings, our bad signings, etc. and we get depressed about this season and the future prospects. Then we look up and we're in first by 4 games, as close to 1st place in the AL (and 2nd in MLB) as we are to 2nd in our division, and have as good a chance as anyone to win the WS, depending if we can get a bye. And we will be among the favorites again next year. It is a sport designed to try men's souls!
I wouldn't say it is impossible - but they have liked Salazar for some time, especially for his work with pitchers. Salazar makes very little money. The Astros are going to want to trade for a top of the rotation starter and likely sign another starting pitcher. The money that Caratini would get is most likely going to go towards pitching. It isn't anything against Caratini, as much as it is that the Astros have some holes to address and some finances, but not enough to plug two rotation holes and keep Caratini.
Either a 2nd rounder or a 4th rounder, depending on where Houston ends up relative to this years CBT threshold and whether or not they sign any QO free agents. Roster Resource shows that they somehow stayed under the tax even after the deadline trades, but I am very skeptical of that. If they stayed under the tax, they’ll get a 2nd rounder. If they went over, they’ll get a 4th rounder (assuming they don’t sign any QO free agents this offseason). We won’t know officially until after the season.
News on Meyers. Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers was evaluated after fouling a ball off his right knee during a Triple-A rehab game on September 3, 2025, but was ultimately cleared of any new injury. Meyers is expected to join the Astros in Arlington for their weekend series against the Rangers. DD
we need Jake to hit 9th. With Yordan being on this tear and Pena finding his groove, the 9th hitter can be a pretty big difference maker.
If Bochy fights off the analytic department we might see pretty often 4finger gesture towards Yordan this weekend. I tried writing a list where we are better than Texas even with their injuries. -More $ in the lineup taking the field. -Still after all crap have better clubhouse vibe wise than them if you believe Kevin Pillar.
Astros don’t have a 3rd or 4th starter. They only have 3 decent RP. They only have one reliable elite power hitter. Their 2nd ace has about a 10% chance of shooting himself in the dick every time he takes the mound. This team is just not on par with the heyday. Paredes might make a big difference on offense and Hader and Sousa might make a big difference in the bullpen but I’m very skeptical of any of them coming back and being fully productive right away. I personally think losing Brandon Walter was where the season went down the tubes for good. After ALL those injuries they find a legit #3 SP out of nowhere and he promptly blows out his arm. Unreal. Cam Smith needs to be sent down. He’s hurting the team. Diaz and Walker have not been fun to watch this season.
Jason Alexander has been pretty decent. Javier and Garcia have shown flashes. Walker and Cam shown that when they are on they are on, but when they are not... it's late stage Jose Abreu levels of futility. The fielding has been solid although the basics in baserunning makes this team look like it is learning the controls on MLB THE SHOW
Sadly, the Astros 2nd ace is not pitching well enough right now to make the post season roster. Luis Garcia will be our savior I believe !!! If yordan and correa stay healthy we will have hope. The bullpen is a mess , but maybe javier and lance can find some special sauce and the rest of the guys can not be too bad.
Astros were able to ride the wave of injuries for a long time, but Paredes is the one that finally killed the offense, and Hader was the one that finally killed the bullpen. If we limp into the playoffs somehow, which for me could seriously be in doubt depending on how the remaining games with TEX and SEA go, we will have zero chance of doing anything meaningful without both Paredes and Hader back, and I have serious doubts either will be able to go. Hader still isn't even throwing.
We need Alvarez back at the 3 or 4 spot to protect the hitters in front of him.......and give him chances to drive in runs....at 2, he only protects Pena. Pena Meyers Altuve Alvarez Correa Would be the top 5.....then it would be Carantini DIaz Urias Sanchez DD
