As far as I can recall, the few times regarding malcontents hit the news involved the following: Mitch Williams Phil Nevin Mitch Meluskey Tim Redding Carlos Gomez Mike Fiers
I remember Dan Wheeler shoving Chris Sampson in the dugout, then got traded a few days later. Also Ken Giles telling Hinch "eff you man" when he got pulled, then he got sent to AAA.
https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/Astros-Sampson-has-strong-start-but-win-gets-1826267.php Sampson first watched his chance at a well-pitched victory get blown when Wheeler gave up four eighth-inning runs. He was then manhandled in the dugout by a steaming Wheeler, who wanted no part of Sampson's attempts to console the frustrated reliever. Sampson blew off both incidents, simply saying, "It's really not a big deal. There are no issues there."
The pitching was so good in the playoffs I find it hard to believe that they don't "win with a lot of other managers". We have no idea how the Contreras trade would have worked out - he could have came here and had a .900 OPS contributing huge hits in the playoffs. That said, I don't have any issues with Dusty in 2022.
No, they won’t forget - but the guys in the clubhouse already know Valdez is like this. He has apologized a number of times for similar screw ups. He is forgiven because he is respected for his work ethic and a lot of the guys like him even with his warts. My guess based on his prior transgressions is that he settles down and apologizes properly. I do think he cost himself some money last night though. Hard to quantify but this on top of the comments about the team positioning and calling his own pitches and exploding will be in the back of owners and GM’s heads when they decide how far to extend in years. This team has been able to weather Framber in the past because he is usually has a strong work ethic, and the Astros team as a whole are good guys that act professional. Hader and Chas can get emotional at times but that’s literally it.
Rangers already lost and Kirby is currently getting rocked by the Rays. Can we take advantage? Probably not.
Texas with a huge loss today, stunting momentum they had. Seattle getting shellacked 8-0. Let's make this a glorious trifecta with a win tonight. I'd feel a whole lot better up 4 on Seattle and 5.5 on Texas.
