With Garland and Maureen Comey essentially leading the investigations out of SDNY and main justice I think the theory of protecting allies kind of falls apart. It’s a Comey we are talking about and Garland is the guy who allowed the last surviving son of a sitting president to get indicted over a mistake on gun registration form. Had it been Bill Barr and a hack district attorney sure.

I would recommend people listen to what Julie J Brown out of the Miami Herald has reported and talked about in interviews. I take her read on things and her sources more than anything we could speculate.

I still think Garland should have appointed a special counsel and then maybe just assumed the SC would bring Comey on his team since this was her case and nobody knows more than her.

I also think of course Congress should have also appointed a special committee now but at the time being if we are honest with each other here both sides would have perceived it as a witch hunt either to nail Trump (Pelosi) or the Clintons (McCarthy).

The Maxwell prosecution was reportedly very difficult because it relied so much on victim testimony from 20 years ago and memories had faded. So apparently according to Brown Comeys SDNY team felt they would have trouble getting more convictions and it was seen as impossible to flip Maxwell and rely on her testimony.

Again to be clear I THINK Comey should have prosecuted anyways because it’s the right thing to do, but just giving some context of what has been reported.
