Yep this is after he argued with Nook about using Hader for all those multi inning appearances lol then after Hader got hurt he blamed Joe for overusing him

    baseball is so unfair sometimes

Hunter had 2 amazing outings against the rockies and angels only giving up a total of 3 runs combined but was charged losses for both outings.

garcia's first game back from IL. gave up 3 runs and got a W out of it. not saying Garcia didn't deserve his win. just saying Hunter didn't deserve the losses.

    wack.

That's why win- loss records of pitchers mean nothing.

Good win today. Glad to see the bats wake up with RISP.

They signed him in large part because even though he doesn’t hit 99 mph anymore, he has crazy movement late in the zone that makes him very difficult to hit…. So hitters have no idea what they are swinging at… problem is Kimbrel doesn’t know where the ball is going either.

    Wins mean something to Verlander.

    Probably to other pitchers too.

It's true that a lot of players are stupid and they will often value things that they shouldn't.... that doesn't mean those things they value are important.

When you can give up 20 earned runs and get a win and also you can give up 1 earned run in a complete game and get a loss, W-L means nothing at all.

Stupid? Of course they don’t tell the whole story but W-L records are everything for pitchers and they do matter, even if only to them for personal goals. It doesn’t matter if they’re two years in or a 12 year vet, when they’re done with their careers they want to be up as far as they can on the wins list. Doesn’t make them stupid at all.

    means nothing for the fans.
however, to the players it means a lot. you also have to factor in contract incentives.

I would hope those kinds of incentives would be nearing extinction since they are unrelated to how the pitcher actually performs.

That said, i get that HOF voters are still backwards enough to think they matter, so that would be incentive enough for players to value them... though I'd hope those types of HOF voters die off fairly soon.

    Wild card race

    ----- Astros (Division leader)
    -0.5 Yankees WC1
    -0.5 Red Sox WC2
    3.0 Mariners WC3
    5.0 Rangers (losing 5-3 bottom 8)
    5.5 Royals

So hopefully 5 1/2 clear of being out of the playoffs if the Rangers end up losing.

We are also 3 back of Toronto who has been wobbling lately. We got a huge 3 game series coming up in the middle of the month with them.

    Exactly.

Speaking of, anybody catch JV was up 7-0 going to the 5th inning last night but his pitch count was way out of control. 7 batters got on base and he struck out 10 (which is nuts), and it took him 121 pitches to complete the 5th inning. I found that a little hilarious, he obviously makes the calls on this kind of stuff, and deservedly so. Giants are going nowhere so who cares.

Looks like Thurston Howell III has come in to try to close the game out vs the Rangers.

    Crossing fingers.

    Jesus Christ Arizona.

One strike away and they couldn't get it done.

I’d agree with you if they didn’t lose Eovaldi, Seager and Semien. They’re winning these games with a bunch of scrubs in the lineup. Reminds me of our run with the AAA guys. I don’t think it’s sustainable but we’ll see.
