I hear Donkey Kong slaps. Curious how it handles the Marvel vs Capcom games (available on Switch 1). Supposedly you can use a PS5 controller with the Switch 2 without buying anything.
My 10yo is saving for one. I don't see a burning need for one, especially since everything on OG switch is forward compatible and most of the 'new' games are just re-releases with a few new bells and whistles.
The main reason right now is Mario Kart World. I have a switch OLED as well but haven’t touched it, just been on Mario kart world. Another reason for the switch 2 is donkey Kong bonanza if you played donkey Kong 64 and have been waiting for another 3d donkey Kong game for over a decade.
You can't really make a side scroller any better. I still play Donkey Kong Country Returns on 19 year old Wii and that game is graphically spectacular even with just a HDMI adapter.
I had $140 worth of Best Buy reward points expiring soon so I grabbed a Switch 2 with MK World this weekend for my 10yo. He’s still $70 shy but I told him he could work it off with chores. MK World is amazing. I played a bit and it’s really next level Mario Kart. Recovery from weapon hits like turtle shells is a little more forgiving, meaning skills are much more important. The addition of rails and water vehicles is awesome. The tracks are insane. I watched the kids play the open world part for a while and it’s impressive. The Switch 2 itself is nice. The dashboard/interface is really similar to the OG Switch. The ability to play old games with our fleet of Switch 1 controllers is a definite bonus. Worth $500+tax? Not yet, unless you’re a huge Mario Kart fan. But Nintendo brings their A game with their IP games so I expect it’s a good investment.
I was also surprised by how fun MK World was. The previous MK did nothing for me. This new one was immediately fun.
MK8 was made for the Wii U. Not having a legit MK for the Switch was a disgrace. MK Live does not count.
The long awaited sequel to Hollow Knight, Silksong, dropped yesterday for all platforms, including Switch and Switch 2. The developers rewarded the fans' patience (seems like it was in development hell for 6 years) by making the game only $19.99. Steam and the Nintendo Store crashed out when it was released. I think something like 500k people were all trying to buy it from Steam the moment it dropped. Hollow Knight might be the best video game I have ever played, so I am very ready to dive into this one.
im still on oji switch. I'd rather spend my allowance on getting ps5 tho than switch 2. but worried ps6 will come out soon.
