...and sometimes watching them play plus some brainwork determines that they should play somewhere else
Altuve is going to chase 3000 hits even if it takes him to get to 90 years old first. Keep in mind: Biggio played until 41 without having a DH slot available... Altuve is 35 now.
5/110 on Paredes (he gets 2/40 in arb I bet so that’s 3/70. 10/120 for Cam. If not send him down. Get another year.
Biggio was a bad player for exactly one year. Go look at his baseball reference. Even in his second to last year he was like 1.3 or 1.7 I think.
Define "bad"? He was mediocre to worthless for the last 5ish years after he blew his knee out in 2000 I don't want to watch Old Altuve chase 3000 hits for several years at the end of his career, he's in the HOF whether he gets those numbers or not.
Not fair or true man. From 2001-2006 he played 6 seasons and had exactly 10 bWar. Every season was positive war and 3 of the seasons he was over 2 war which is the threshold for good everyday regular. In his last season he was bad and was worth -2.1 War. That Astros team was **** and I’m damn glad we got the chance to say goodbye to Biggio, watch him pass HOF left and right in doubles and hits, and see that 5 hit game to get to 3000. It was the only good thing about that year. If the Astros are competing for titles when Altuve can’t play anymore I hope he’s the 13th man on the roster and gets very little run. if the golden age is over I want to see him play all the time and appreciate what he’s meant to the city in the full sense of his career and accomplishments.
Fangraphs had those 6 years after 2000 as worth 11.6 war. So, he was dead balls on mlb regular during that time. In every year up until his last the numbers said Craig Biggio absolutely deserved his job and playing time
Oh I totally understand why it was so important to Biggio personally and the franchise as a whole. Like you said, there wasn't much at all going on with the team anyway. I just don't need to watch Altuve do that, assuming that we'll hopefully still be in competitive mode. And yes, you're correct that I was being unfair. I got a bit jaded watching 2 of my baseball heroes, who I watched for literally their entire careers as Astros, struggle mightily at the end. Father Time remains undefeated.
Yeah he wasn’t good after 2000 but he was absolutely deserving of being a regular until the last year. And yeah- I’d prefer Altuve go out as a bench player and mascot on a team that wins 100 games. If that’s not the case though I will happily watch him grind out a 150 game middle finger to Father Time. I find the stuff that the greats do to try to remain playable pretty interesting and inspiring.
Astros are a first round exit type of team. Inconsistent pitching and they can’t hit…. What have I been watching?
I think they have to attempt to get a haul for Peña in a trade this offseason. I’ve seen enough of his bat to feel very confident this year will absolutely be the best of his career. Next year he’s back to an OPS in the low .700’s. Move Correra back to SS as they need Paredes bat way more than Peña’s.
They are an incredibly streaky team... It wouldn't surprise me either way if they get no-hit in back-to-back wild card games or if they sweep through the playoffs averaging 8 runs per game.
