All these moms driving these things around the neighborhood. if I pull up behind you, MOVE OVER. Don't act like you're a real car and stay in the middle of the road driving 10mph and then give me a dirty look for "tailgating" you. Just drive your regular car. You live in the suburbs, not some 200 acre ranch.
I will say, these things can shave 15 minutes off school drop off/pick up time by being able to skip the car line. But the people that just cruise around in these buggies, or take them to whatever neighborhood cookie cutter square is nearby (Towne Lake, Sugar Land Town Square) and actually park them and walk inside a restaurant are ridiculous.
Anyone ever have the Stouffer's Chicken Enchiladas in Family or Party size? It's amazing how much non-chicken you find in those things. I know they grind up the chicken for the most part. But, the consistency inside the enchilada is like a stuffing with some chicken scattered. It tastes fine but weird for a chicken enchilada. When someone says chicken enchilada, the overwhelmingly number one ingredient should be chicken. This is like a corn masa, corn starch, stuffing-like interior with some chicken. That's not a chicken enchilada. It's a f-ing burrito. That said...I'll still eat it occassionally as it makes for good leftovers for days depending on the size. But, I can make them custom when it suits me using an avocado-poblano-lime-cilantro-onion-jalapeno-tomato concoction blended and my enchiladas ARE PREDOMINANTLY CHICKEN! DO YOU HEAR THAT, STOUFFER'S? Mother****ers passing off a fake chicken enchilada!
On the rare occasions I’ve had to pick up my kids I would time it so I would pull up right at the tail end with no waiting. Or check them out at the office 15 minutes early. **** waiting in line an hour every day.
I work from home and my boys middle school is less than a mile away, so I pick up and drop off every day. There's a car line on the side of the school but there's also a street in front of the school that everyone parks and just waits for their kids. I time it so I get there right as other kids are getting in these cars and I can just take a spot that someone who's been parked there for 30 minutes leaves. Middle school is different in that once that 4pm bell rings, it's like someone stepped on an ant bed. You can pick your kids up anywhere you want. Not sure why anyone would sit on that car line. Rookies... Back on topic, this is where I see most of these golf cart monstrosities.
I was thinking of middle school with my late-to-the-line 'hack'. With my oldest, I suggested just pulling up to a cross-street down the road where there are crossing guards everywhere and my wife lost her mind, so I said no problem, oldest can just chill and do homework while he waits. I had a 90 minute non-air-conditioned bus ride as a kid, he can sit in the shade for 45 minutes. My younger two go to school with their mom who is the school librarian 45 minutes away. That's a massive pita when she's sick or out of town. If it's a day or two I just keep them home. They're both GT kids so grades an learnin' isn't an issue. If it's a longer stint with my wife gone at a conference or family thing, I walk them in or out.
People will even briefly use them on public roads/streets in Sugar Land? If so, I am surprised because I thought Sugar Land PD was big on Law Enforcement.
Not Stouffers b.s.... We will make some proper casserole (King Ranch?), whether you want to believe it or not. Its go time as far as I'm concerned.
My buddy and I had a discussion about the disappearance of casseroles and he nailed it- it was a staple of our grandparent’s (‘greatest’ Gen) era where they had to stretch food as far as possible.
It's happening next week. https://thebakermama.com/recipes/cheesy-broccoli-rice-casserole/#tasty-recipes-14644-jump-target ...that recipe or 7 others all amalgamated together
I’ll add: The microwave Delivery (eg grandma didn’t do pizza night) but yeah, casseroles are still the cheapest to make. I grew up on a couple that I continued to make for decades
Yup, it was an economical meal pre 90's. I love a good beans and rice recipe and I've noticed this section in the markets have continued to dwindle over the years. Additionally for the decline of casseroles: Allergen concerns Calorie to nutrition ratio low Short Fridge life Time consuming texture/mouthfeel
