Slumping? Overmatched. Needs to sit. And no, Hummel would not be my choice. I was just stating that even Hummel would’ve been better. maybe Cam turns it on going forward.
Cam had a couple of encouraging PAs today. For the most part I agree with you though. He really needs to be in AAA but they are still counting on him to be a 3+ WAR player next year and then 4 more after that. So they won't bench him or make him a platoon guy. Who in AAA is a better choice though? They won't completely bench him if he's in the roster. He needs to start vs all LHP and they will sprinkle in 33%-50% of games vs RHP as well.
Why does it need to be someone from AAA? Dubon CF Sanchez/chas RF Yordan/altuve LF then when Meyers gets back… meyers/ doobie/ chas CF Sanchez/Doobie/chas RF LF- Yordan/ Altuve/ Doobie/chas LF Maybe put Smith in the Chas role once meyers is back?
Because he is not sitting. The only way he doesn't start 50%+ of the games is if he is sent down. And if they send him down, someone must come up.
It’s the difference of 4 hits over 30 games. Both are bad and not all that different in this sample size. He’s better off in the minors to work through things, but the Astros would have looked the same with someone else batting under .200.
It looks like Jacob DeGrom is the only realistic threat to Hunter Brown finishing in the top 3 in the CY. Trevor Rogers, Bryan Woo, and Drew Rasmussen are on the fringes, but something crazy would have to happen for them to surpass Brown as long as he stays healthy and relatively productive. Browns numbers are clearly better than deGrom’s, so he’s got a firm lead and as long as he doesn’t melt down, Brown will bring the Astros an extra 1st rd pick, which by my guess is worth about $30M. https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/12th-starting-pitcher-power-rankings-of-2025
I would do this, except I would try to sign Merrill Kelly. He would give you innings that they will be missing after losing Framber.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/features/cyyoung ESPN's Cy Young tracker has Brown as 7th... Josh Hader as 3rd (?!?). I don't see a closer getting top 3 votes though, which leaves Max Fried ahead of him.... I think ESPN overrates win counts though and undervalues innings pitched.
This was the injury that finally brought the Astros down to where it's affecting wins and losses. It's the one injury where there was nothing they can do to mitigate it.
That list looks like trash. They need to adjust their formula. Hader is hurt so he will fall off. A RP with a 4.69 era (Hoffman) is not getting CY votes. I thought Fried was hurt but he pitched yesterday so yeah he’s a threat. Eovaldi is hurt. I just don’t see closers like Estevez or Munoz beating out Brown. So maybe it’s not a commanding lead, he will have to hold off Fried and DeGrom and hope Rogers doesn’t stay as dominant.
I agree. The formula doesn't work when the best pitcher in the majors (in my opinion) doesn't even make the top 20.
Hopefully short term , as in the rest of the season Garcia is ready , he definitely deserves a shot to start
I wouldn't pitch McCullers at all until he either gets his FB back or commits to being a CURVE Ball pitcher. DD
