As of today, Judge will likely win. Throw out batting average, throw out HR’s, decide on what’s in the middle. if it was 1997, Raleigh would probably get sentiment. (Then again, Sosa won over McGwire)
Not sure why everyone is saying Welcome Back Yordan. They obviously cloned him and it took time to get him up to speed.
I would take the one, out of the 2 choices you gave, that had the better OB%. Also, RBI’s largely depend on the players hitting in front of you. OPS and OPS+ are much more accurate measures than BA. I still think in terms of BA because I am a child of the 80’s. The reason it’s still displayed on the screen and in the box score is because the avg fan still doesn’t understand what OPS is. BA is a useful stat, but a good OPS can easily cure a bad batting average, while a good average does not necessarily cure a crappy OPS. Also, the player with the higher OPS will generally have more RBI’s and runs scored than guys with lots of singles and higher batting averages.
Many time walks are also a product of their teams lineup. And if that player hits a lot of HRs and the other players around him don't. But I get what you mean. To me, BA, HRs and RBIs still can tell what kind of a season a player is having and if all are high then that's most likely one of the best players. If 1 or 2 are low then there's a hole in that players game that isn't MVP worthy.
I was getting so excited imagining the pitcher pitching around Alvarez to get to Walker who in turn makes them pay with a 3 run bomb. Sigh.....
Give the big man something to hit you cowards. Nice to have one of the best sluggers back in the heart of the line up. Feels like it changes everything.
I can understand Walker ready to swing on the first pitch thinking the pitcher wants to establish a strike right away after a walk. But it was obvious the pitcher wanted nothing to do with Alvarez and was unfazed.
You're not even considering how good Raleigh is defensively at the toughest position to play in baseball. At this point I'm not sure who I would vote for but saying he isn't a MVP because of batting average is ridiculous.
I feel like half of your posts are "this player is 0-25", "Walker now up to 132 strikeouts", etc. We all watch the games...
