I lost a lot of respect for Newsom over his Chinese Laundry foray during the COVID shut down. He also strikes me as "Do as I say, not as I do". However --- the reality is that the bar in literally as low as it can go at this point based on the behaviors of the person currently in the Whitehouse and the collapse of the man that held the office before this election. Newsom is smarter than anyone in the office since Clinton, but he has to prove how good his political skills are -- he certainly will not always take the high road, and he isn't afraid of fighting and knows the issue extremely well. He is the face of the Democratic party at this point and isn't an idealogue, so he can shift away from less popular positions if he wants to. He also will easily go and run the social media gauntlet and is comfortable in front of the camera at basically all times. He has charisma when he doesn't align himself with the Ivory Tower.
I don't know, I hear he can throw a mean left hook while wearing his boat loafers and khaki shorts after a long day of boating in the sun. His kryptonite is the hair, if you can mess it up - he collapses like a Trump bit coin scheme.
the opportunist is projecting his unease---popularity trending against him---over his 2028 presidential ambitions https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...ce-in-2028-poll/ar-AA1KQtLu?ocid=BingNewsSerp against Newsom, JD Vance is behind, 37% vs Newsom's 39% against mayor Pete, the opportunist is also behind, 37% vs. 41% 3 months ago, Vance had a slight lead over mayor Pete; and Newsom was not in the picture
@Deckard @Salvy @Os Trigonum @RB713 Newsom lets them live one mile at a time Except if they get ran over
Newsome speaks really well. Lets see how him and Vance square off in 28'. Looking at California's track record. I don't see how he survives the run, but again he is probably our best speaking pres candidate since Obama. It will play.
I'd like to see him pair up with someone like Andrew Yang -- pragmatist, less charismatic but comes across very sincere. I think Newsom feels too slick at times and yet somehow not slick enough to Slick Willie his way past everything.
California's track record is mixed. There are many things that Newsom can point to positively and he can also distance himself from other issues related to California. He seems to be pragmatic if he has to be, in order to win. He is also very bright, well-spoken and charismatic - the question for me is whether he is believable/charming enough. I think that he and Josh Shapiro may be too much together on a ticket. The issue that Vance will face other than being very unlikeable, is that he is very uncomfortable with the media or interacting with people. He is an excellent debater though.
California homeowners pay an average of 0.7% property taxes on top of income taxes. The average annual property tax payment in California is higher than the average annual property tax payment in Texas (because of the much higher home values). Texas Property Taxes By County - 2025 California Property Taxes By County - 2025
as compared to 1.81% for Texas homeowners, according to Texas Property Taxes By County - 2025 thru sleight-of-hand, moniker is desperately trying to avoid comparing CA property tax vs TX property tax
By desperately trying to avoid, I assume you mean posting links to both and saying CAs raw number is only higher because of higher home values. LOL.
You should watch more Vance on Podcast. He is the most down to earth candidate that we will have ever ahd.
I'm very familiar with Vance, have met him a couple of times (briefly) and I have watched him on social media as well. He is good at debating, and he isn't bad when he is surrounded by people that he knows well. He is awkward when it comes to meeting people in the real world, or when he is in a situation that he is unfamiliar with. He has tried very hard to gain polish, and he has it in spades in a debate or pure political situation.... outside of that he is very weird and can be stiff. I have known and been around people like JD Vance - but I am a well-educated white man that is a known quantity - people like Vance I am around often. That isn't the case with women, minorities and blue collar workers. Vance has and will struggle with these people because he isn't comfortable around them. Pete Butigieg is similar in that way. Gavin Newsom, for all of his flaws has a level of comfort and confidence in just about every setting that Vance lacks. Now - Newsom will alienate some because he is so well polished and groomed, so I do not know if he will be seen as sincere by some - but I suspect he will handle social media, the media junket and unscripted encounters very well.
Eh. You just happen to know the VP? Ok. That is enough clutchfans for me today. You won't catch Newsome on a Rogan or Theo Von type setting. That is about as casual as it can get. He wasn't stiff or remotely close to that.
I said I briefly met him a few times - I don't consider that "knowing him". I met him years ago through work where he spoke at a seminar about his book and another time at the airport... but you run with whatever narrative you want. I won't catch Newsom on a "Rogan or Theo Von type setting"? What are you talking about? He was on the Shawn Ryan podcast not that long ago and answered questions from Joe Rogan. Also - yes, Vance was weird on the Rogan podcast, and that was with someone that spoon fed the man.
I want to see newsome do some stuff to combat his overly polished look and vibe. Show up at a pod cast or interview with hair not slicked. Or get on SNL where he can be self deprecating and wear some old navy board shorts. I think he has the breadth to pull those things off. It’s superficial as hell, but our average voters are dumb as hell and vote on vibes.
