I posted this in another thread, but it is relevant in this thread too.

Trump is a walking talking hypocrite when it comes to fighting crime. He just wants a military state, where the military are his to use how, when, and where he wants, and against anyone he wants, without approval from anyone. He makes that more obvious every day.

I only listed a few of many examples from the article, but when it comes to police and community support in fighting crime, the cuts speak a different story than Trump tries to portray.

Trump is all about defunding police, defunding of agencies that identify, investigate, and interdict potential acts of domestic and international terrorism, targeted violence, and hate crimes, cutting rural police funding, cutting funding for the regional child advocacy center that trains and assists professionals in investigating, prosecuting, and treating child abuse, cutting policing and prosecution programs, including longstanding efforts to address violent crime and acts of targeted violence, defunding the State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training (SLATT) program, and so much more.

A Deeper Look at the Cuts

The trickle of cancellations became a deluge on April 22, when DOJ terminated 365 awards on the basis that the work “no longer effectuates Department priorities.” According to funding termination notices sent to grantees, those priorities include “combatting violent crime, protecting American children, and supporting American victims of trafficking and sexual assault, and better coordinating law enforcement efforts at all levels of government.”

The cuts include $71.7 million to policing and prosecution programs, including longstanding efforts to address violent crime and acts of targeted violence.

The Administration also defunded the State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training (SLATT) program, which helps equip law enforcement and prosecutors to identify, investigate, and interdict potential acts of domestic and international terrorism, targeted violence, and hate crimes.

The Administration terminated the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative, a program that funds intermediary organizations that deliver financial assistance directly to dozens of rural law enforcement agencies. These funds allow agencies to upgrade technology and equipment, hire and deploy personnel, support victim services and crime prevention programming, and fill other gaps in policing resources.21 These pass-through funds were eliminated, as was at least one direct award to a rural law enforcement agency.

There were around $137 million in cuts to programs designed to protect and support youth, including efforts to safeguard children against abuse and neglect. Terminated grants include funding for the regional child advocacy center that trains and assists professionals in investigating, prosecuting, and treating child abuse in 13 western states.

The guy who wants to call him self a guy of Peace wants to rename the Department of Defense the Department of War. The guy who claims to want to fight crime cut over 500 million in grant money to fund police departments, terrorism, sex trafficking, and child abuse. The guy who claims to be strong on sex trafficking has gifted a sex trafficker a transfer to a luxury prison, and is contemplating giving her a pardon. What a joke. He just wants to use the military as his partisan police force, instead of giving the state agencies and departments more funding to help them do their jobs more efficiently. It's all theater from a sick twisted power hungry liar.

I would expect they would be sent downtown but those neighborhoods are within walking distance of downtown.

What are the locals saying? The overwhelming majority of people do not want the national guard in downtown Chicago or the associated areas. Most conservatives in Chicago do not want them here either, as they believe it will become difficult to travel downtown and could cause riots or violence. Most people see it as a political move and some see it as an effort to intimidate. Those I know that have expressed either indifference or support have been older people in the suburbs, and are not actually living or working in Chicago.

Chicago has issues like every major population center. I have complained about some problems in Chicago - primarily that black on black and Hispanic on Hispanic violence in 5-6 neighborhoods is insane, and needs to be addressed. However, 90% or more of Chicago is as safe as anywhere in the USA and Western Europe. At one point through half of the year a couple years ago, of all the homicides in Chicago, one two were white people - a couple of white women had been shoot by a neighbor. That was it for 6 months in a population of millions of people..... so if you are white, the risk is basically zero. If you are not black, the risk is very very small...... and if you are black and not living in Garfield Park or Washington or Humbolt or a couple other neighborhoods, you really are not at much risk......... all of the risk is on young black people that live in a group of neighborhoods, and the risk for them is exceptionally high.

Sending in the National Guard as a show of force isn't going to do anything - if President Trump or any other politician really cared about these neighborhoods, they would be better by now --- but the reality is that the powerful and the majority in Chicago are very safe - so if a bunch of 14-20 year old black kids and young men want to sell drugs to the whites and kill each other at night, no one cares.

African American children and families will benefit the most from the deployment of the National Guard to high crime areas. Trump is helping this group of people more than any recent President -- No tax on tips, no tax on overtime, border security (most illegal immigrants end up in communities of color), ending foreign wars, low inflation, now crime fighting and safer neighborhoods for urban residents... Trump is delivering results to the African American community.
