The Time will show, what Alperen will be in the next years... Everybody knows, that he must find his touch on the 3 Pointers and arround the Rim. He is smart and he can learn that. I think its not fair to compare Alpi with Scola! Alpi will be a triple double guy and Scola had 0 triple double ever. We said if Alpi got a shooter arround him it will be much more tripple doubles! Stop compare this guy with players like Scola. 2 years before you said Alpis defense is bad and now nobody can talk about his defense and in 2 years no one will talk about his FT and 3 Pointers. He will be 100% a Superstar!

Alpi actually started playing pro at 5. He will retire after this season.

I guess you forgot Scola was 27 when he joined the Rockets and his game was much different than the current 23 year-old Alpi.

Scola was not the kind of guy you could use as the focal point of an offense because he didn't play-make for others. By no stretch of anyone's imagination (except maybe yours) was he a slick passer or assist guy. His staple was playing off the ball and shooting deadly mid-range jumpers, which Alpi might never learn to do. He also had a post game as a secondary weapon.

I don't think Alpi will become a superstar, but it's very unlikely he's reached his peak.. At least he's already made an All-Star team, which Scola never did.

For the record, I loved Luis Scola and how he played the game. He truly loved basketball and got the most out of his limited athleticism.

He feels the need to repeat himself ad naseum on every topic - same opinions, over and over, thread after thread, never with data to support. Most people I mute are due to being baselessly arrogant malcontents (looking at you, BobbytheCrankyToddler). DD seems nice enough, but he’s just so damn repetitive and never anything analytic or objective.

Sengun is taller, quicker and a much better passer than Scola, who was already a very solid player. Whether he becomes a superstar or not will depend on regaining his touch around the basket and demanding coverage out to the 3-point line (either due to an improved shot or a threat of drive/dish). It has nothing to do with how much he looks like a Spanish player from 20 years ago.

Scola was Argentinian, not Spanish, although he played several seasons in Spain and is very loved there

I don't really see the Scola/Sengun parallels either. About the only way, a Scola and Sengun comp will hold up is if Sengun suffers a life-altering injury (God forbid).

Yes, they both have smarts, intuition that you can't teach, and the common the throwback ability to spin and create looks in the post, but after that, there's little in common. Today's Sengun is quicker and more athletic. He's more disruptive on defense than Scola ever was (especially with his hands). And Scola never had the explosiveness to finish above the rim, something that we see Sengun doing almost routinely. As Sengun gets more experience and core strength, he'll keep adding to his game, frustrating his opponents and naysayers.

I assume you guys are talking about DD, but I can't be certain b/c I block all 100% opinion, 100% eye test, 100% trust me bro contributors. That said, he's REALLY got you guys - all of you - on this entire page referencing, commenting, or straight up giving feedback on the comparison that had him laughed out of the Alpi Franchise Player thread about 4 months ago.

You would not have this much patience for your children....much less a stranger acting like one behind a keyboard.

Block. Move on. Be happier. DD is a DD fan first. A DD's faves fan second. And if there's anything left over he's Go Rockets. He's not worth it.

As in all things, if the math doesn't match the eye test, the eye test is almost always wrong. Those who don't want to check their eye test with things that are more objective usually have the worst eye test

Not seeing the Scola comps. Alpi is a far better player. Having said that, I loved Scola as a player and will not tolerate any Scola slander.

Scola was 100% the same, he was a focal point on every team until he got to the Rockets which had Yao, if Yao was on this team Sengun would be playing the same role.

Scola was CRAZY good on his national team, scored more than 40 against the USA, IIRC one game.....

It is not a knock to say Alpi and Scola are equal - they play the same way, they are both not the greatest athletes, but they are both very effective....

DD, you keep saying they are the same, they play the same. I don’t really think they are particularly similar at all, other than having good footwork and being vaguely beige in skin color. Very different strengths and weaknesses. Alpi significantly more athletic, Scola a significantly better shooter. Alpi is already a much better passer and defender as well.

i loved Scola, but if he and Şengün are “literally” the same player, then so are Vlade Divac and D-Mo. Or Manu Ginobili and Hedo Turkoglu. Or Peja Stojakovic and Carlos Delfino.

Would you go so far as to say he's the DMo of CF posters?

If Sengun ends up being like Scola at all--and I do see some similarities--it will be that he is a much better version of Scola.

In which case, is much closer to Pau Gasol.

He's basically already exceeded Scola in every way despite playing his entire NBA career so far younger than Scola was during his rookie season.
