That’s because it’s practically identical to the slider. The sweeper is supposed to have more emphasis on horizontal movement. It’s hardly the worst pitch in baseball. Any pitch not executed correctly is a bad pitch……
Yeah. There’s “slumping” but this is obviously way beyond that. He has to come out of the everyday lineup.
It's tough to make this adjustment in the middle of a season. I think it is safe to assume that we as an organization have coached our pitchers during their development throughout the minors that focusing on the hitter comes before controlling the run game. IMO it's not a coincidence that literally all of our pitchers suck at holding runners on and none of them have a good pickoff move.
