I just want the truth and some of the things that go on behind the scenes. I dont want a bought and paid for cheerleader. Which is basically what the 610 guys are, minus Payne/Stoerner and I'm really meh on Stoerner and his aww shucks routine. I also dont get the Granato love, only reason he's got a job is because he's well connected with high dollar people/advertisers around town. As far as sports knowledge he's got very little and LZ carries their show. These days when I'm in the car I listen to a lot of Kirwin/Miller on Sirius and also Bowden/Spillborough (SP?) on MLB radio. Give me educated nuts and bolts sports talk.
I want someone who can explain WHY they hold an opinion and not just shout an opinion because they are having a bad day because they lost a parley.
The only one I like is Matt Thomas and he’s not even a Texans fan. The rest of them are boring or annoying.
I miss the old daily "Pallilog" that he had on Chron.com, he would post a series of pictures with pertinent sports related captions, then usually end with a pic of a scantily clad babe.
Not if it’s 24/7 Texans talk like it is on 610. 790 talks about all Houston sports teams, including rockets and Astros, not just the Texans. 610 are such casuals when it comes to the rockets. I don’t listen to Matt Thomas show every day, just 20-30 minutes here and there.
Of the 610 guys, this is why Payne and Stoerner are my favorites. I think a lot of ppl here don’t like Clint’s negativity.. but I see it as a firm grasp on level-headed and what the outside world sees. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, I can be positive about my team enough on my own, I need someone making the hard statements
I like Seth Payne because he tells me why he thinks something and allows others to have an opinion. And he's light hearted, even during rants. Pendergast is a perfect team mate. But I truly don't like Locker. He'd rather see FAILURE and be right than see SUCCESS and be right.
It's been so long since I've listened to a Houston NFL Football game on the radio (since the 80's at least) that I don't even remember who the broadcasters were, or if they were any good. Somebody and Dan Pastorini, maybe?
Marc Vandermeer and Andre Ware. Vandermeer can get on the nerves with his sunshine pumping and overall style at times, but Andre Ware as a color commentator is class. He never pulls punches, and chimes in with on-point analysis IMO. I usually only listen to the first 15-20 minutes of the game on the radio when I'm driving home, so take what I said with a grain of salt.
Zeirlein probably has the best knowledge of all of them, but his name dropping and ‘I see it at a different level’ attitude are annoying. Payne is fantastic - much smarter than he seems at first, and fairly balanced and light-hearted. Sean is a good straight man for him, though a little too much of a company man. The rest of the 610 crew are blowhards or out to make a name for themselves and hop to a bigger market. Wexler is great also, though heavily handicapped by his emotional toddler of a cohost.
This was my beef with some of the baseball talking heads for a few years. They acted like Houston was just a layover on there way to a bigger market, obviously unaware that Houston growth demographics make it the top opportunity in the nation. Just think of how fortunate we were to have Lowell Passe as the voice of the Astros early on.
For my money, CP has always been one of the best in sports for the city even though he’s bounced around a lot. I remember he used to do a midday show with LZ like 12-13 years ago. Then he had his own show “The Drive Home” for awhile. mostly facts and no fluff I also like Matt Thomas. Doesn’t take himself to seriously.
