My Dad was a Guardsman in the 60's, they got mobilized and sent to Austin for potential "riots". He told me later that he had never been more scared than he was, staring down a bunch of hippie kids, who were basically just like him, with a rifle and bayonet (mentally saying to the world: please don't anybody do anything, please don't happen, please don't do anything, etc...)

 

Yeah right, he's got a Trump loyalist in charge of the military. Not qualified by any leadership experience compared to many others who were passed over, but more than willing to praise and kiss the butt of the man with the greasy little hand that fed him his appointment.

He is full onboard with carrying out Trump's vision of a military of loyalists, and weed out any women and blacks in high positions, fire any non-Trunp loyalists, all while kissing Trump's butt 24/7.

 

No one is following Hegseth's orders, he is a joke.

The military would just as soon lock his dumbass up too.

What we need is a large military leader, a respected one to just say no......and to demand we invoke the 25th.....it will take courage, but that is what is needed.

Trump wanted a puppet to lead the troops. He wants his military leaders loyal to him first and above all else, and to defend and support him first and foremost, regardless of what he orders them to do. Courage isn't needed in a leader who will bend to his demands. In fact, he wants Gumby leaders, who can bend over backwards to kiss his royal ass. After all, It's what all dictators expect from their regimes.

All this political theater to use an armed military instead of simply pouring the millions into police recruitment, training, and other resources so badly needed in police departments. DNA rape cases are backlogged for years, and funding can go a long way in giving police departments the resources they need to catch criminals faster. There is such a backlog in courts that it often takes years to go to trial. Why not fix that?

Most military troops aren't trained in civilian law enforcement and dealing with the mentally ill, drug addicts, homeless, or disabled members in the communities, or taught strategies police are trained in when dealing with those types of people. It's completely different than battlefield strategies, moving in to take out the threat. But, thousands of armed military enforcers of civilians in cities around the country is exactly the type of theater Trump wants. It's dictator/authoritarian style leadership. Just hope the guys holding those weapons don't already have undiagnosed PTSD or a thirst to kill or shoot without due cause. I doubt they will all be wearing body cams, and don't trust Hegseth or Trump for a second to tell the truth if something goes wrong. I have no doubt they would try to cover up any wrong doings.

 

Well, the minorities in these big cities will get to decide whether they like the inner city military crack down. After all, 77 million people voted for this.

Dad graduated college in '67, they married in '68, he soon after joined the Tx National Guard so he wouldn't get drafted. After 6 months working/training in Tigerland (Fort Polk, LA) he got to go home for a bit, and *then* he was mobilized for the Austin stuff. This was in early 1970, a couple of months before Kent State

Yeah, why don't they send them to go help with fire evacuations, or assisting in fire control around the midwest and west, and do something other than mingling with tourists, posing for selfies, and treating themselves to ice cream from food trucks along Washington's National Mall, one of the safest parts of America's capital?

It's because it's for show, and a ridiculous waste of resources. If the whole purpose is to fight crime, why aren't they all patrolling the worst and most dangerous neighborhoods across America instead? Better question is, since when did the military members sign up to become Trump's police officers across the US? The military has become a police state under Trump, without police training.

 

Trump has selective memory. Either that, or he just flat out spews lies for the brainwashed cult to believe. My guess is both. The guy is pretty old after all, and his memory seems to be deteriorating. But, a compulsive liar will never stop lying either, so it's a dangerous combination for a man making decisions for this country.

Trump has also overstated the impact of the federal takeover, proclaiming on Friday that it had caused a public safety "miracle" unseen in recent memory — the nation's capital going a week without a single reported homicide.

"D.C. was a hellhole, and now it's safe," Trump told reporters Friday.

"I hate to say this, because it doesn't sound very good, but there have been no murders in D.C. in the last week. That's the first time in anybody's memory that you haven't had a murder in a week."

This is not the first recent week without homicides, as Trump claimed. There were no murders reported from May 4 through May 11, April 11 to 17, and a more than two-week-long period from Feb. 25 through March 12.
