The Astros have a guy in Sugar Land who just got a win giving up only 1 run in 5 innings. He’s got a 2.35 era in his last 5 appearances in the minors and struck out 21 in 17 innings. Maybe he can replace Arrighetti in the rotation. You may have heard of him, Lance Jr or something.

    Mostly kidding.

I don’t think Arrighetti is cooked and he’s got a higher ceiling at this point, but he’s now given up 5 runs in 60% of his starts and pitched more than 5 innings in only 1.

Arrighetti has a below average fastball, never sold on him as anything more than a 4 or 5 starting pitcher at best.

Spaghetti pitched a stinker last night and our bats are cold AF and our relievers are not good. We can't keep relying on the M`s to choke as bad as we are, right now the team just seems off, the good breaks we were getting earlier this year have come back to bite us on the backside. IMO we have to many holes to fill, that could change with some folks coming back, could we possibly be a better team with Yordan and a few pitchers coming back? Possibly, when we have Sanchez batting cleanup, you know its going to be rough..................were gonna lose some games but dam were getting skull drug.

I thought he did really well last year but dam, he has not looked even close to being "back", not sure if they rushed him back to soon or he just lost the pop on his FB

Many said all would be good once we got our injured pitchers back.
The only one I see being able to get back to normal this season is C. Javier.

    Lance is done.
Dubin is not in any way the same pitcher since getting injured.
Spencer A. will not be a contributor until next year.
I will say the same about Garcia.
Never thought France was all that before he got injured, so again I don't expect much from him.

We need to figure out a way to sign Valdez this off season, even if the back end of that contract is a net negative.
That contract would be no worse than Jabreau or Walker.

Today will be playoff atmosphere baseball. Unfortunately it will also be a stark reminder to our feeble exit from the playoffs last year.

Let's see if we can answer the bell.

    I think that's a really fair assessment.

A bunch of people on here have an unrealistic perception of him.

His fastball velocity is down an entire mph from last season. Don’t understand how this has happened unless he was rushed back too soon. It’s not like he had an arm or shoulder injury though - he hasn’t pitched all season so if anything you would think he would have a live arm and his velocity would be as good or better.

Yep, we shot for the moon for a starting pitcher, that was stupid. There were plenty of MOR guys we could have gotten. Littell was a prime example. Reds are benefiting from his services.

I've always maintained we needed another leverage guy in the pen right behind Abreu in the pecking order, but I don't think Brown even entertained the idea. It was the cheapest move to make in terms of cost and what we would have to give up.

So maybe the rotation ends up

    Brown
    Valdez
    Javier
    Walter
    Alexander

    I'm fine with that.

We have ZERO middle relievers worth anything.....we are great at the top and bottom, but the 6-8th innings we are BEGGING guys to get through it.

Walter is pretty much confirmed out for the year.
I’m pretty sure Costanza will get shelled in the post season against an elite offense too.

Geez...why don't we just start bringing in pitchers off the street?

Kinda silly to lump in Garcia with Spencer and especially Dubin. Maybe Garcia post injury but prior he flashed a good amount of potential and actual performance.

He is one I believe the pitching clock effected the most.
And him no longer being able to "Rock the baby".

Garcia and Arrighetti have had success in the big leagues - but they haven't shown they are ready for 2025 thus far. Arrighetti has been awful and Garcia has been mediocre in his rehab starts thus far. I suspect both could help the team in 2026, but I wouldn't be comfortable having them out there in the rotation right now.

The hope is that both get sharper and better before the playoffs - but it is an open question. The only one that has shown real promise is Christian Javier. Ideally one of Garcia or Arrighetti will have established themselves in the rotation and the other can be a leverage arm in the pen - at this point I would gladly be happy if just one of the two of them helps in the playoffs.
