I haven't read this thread yet, but I'm sure those that identify as libertarians hate this move by Trump and have probably made multiple posts about how this expansion by the Federal executive branch is horrendous

Trump's occupation makes me revisit the question of home rule and statehood in DC. Was reading a little history of the fight for home rule. It has been a very long fight for Washingtonians to have any say in their own town. I previously opposed statehood for DC, and honestly I'm still not too keen on it. But their current level of local power is insufficient. I prefer retrocession, I think, but statehood is better than this bs.

 

Or it's not.

If you are wrong, this represents another dominoe falling leading to the destruction of the US Constitution, the demise of America as we know it, and the rise of a new dictator.

If I am wrong, we shrug our shoulders and won't remember this ever happened 5 years from now.

...however there are not many small steps left to get us to authoritative rule. The very last step is overthrowing free elections. If Trump runs for a 3rd term (or otherwise appoints his successor), America will officially be an autocracy.

Take control of all branches of government (check)
Eliminate public officials and install loyalists (check)
Undermine free press and run propaganda machine (check)
Attack legal and academic institutions that question authority (check)
Deploy federal resources for overwhelming optics of control (check)
Manipulate elections to ensure you never lose (in progress)
