  3. Top #5

    30.8%

This is a truly wild take.
    PG: Cousy, Rondo, Johnson
    SG: Havlicek, Allen, Brown
    SF: Bird, Pierce, Tatum
    PF: Garnett, McHale
    C: Russell, Cowens, Parish
That defense would be terrifying, KG and Russell are two of the absolute greatest defenders of all time and most of the team are multiple time all-def. And that’s more than a formidable bench.

Meh I don't consider basketball prior to the 3pt line as the basketball we know of today. So 1979 to present. Rockets are definitely top 3. Sucks that championships didn't go along with it. With couple of more rings, easily a top 5 franchise.

So we’re making all-time teams while disqualifying half of all time?

The Sonics plus OKC have a lot of talent and depth making them a sleeper team. They just won and we only got past them in real life a few times through out the 90’s. They are the only reason MJ has six championships. Not the super star names but the combination of players that were on a different level.

San Antonio had a unique past and intersect feature. A lot of people that only played for them.
Parker / Gervan / Gemonlbi / Duncan / Wemby / Roberson. I am not a fan of them but they were great players all for the same team.

The Celtics have like an armada of HOFers that are probably not all Top 5 or Top 10 but a lot of them in the Top 50-60.

If you play make believe with a Roster of 12 or 15, the Celtics are your pick.......

Yeah, the Spurs would be up there simply because if you build a "greatest team roster" for them, it would basically be the core of their championship teams in Duncan, Robinson, Kawhi (for a bit), Ginobili, and Parker... then you throw in guys like the Wemby and Iceman in there. Throw in Alvin Robertson and maybe a Sean Elliot. Pretty exceptional lineup.

Spurs still had our Horry, Antonio McDyess, Dennis Worm Rodman, Boris Diaw, Avery Johnson, Bones Barry, Mario Elie.

Well lucky for us Sonic’s & OKC are considered seperate franchises thanks to the agreement when they moved to OKC ;)

Yeah true, put Paolo at 3 or even Rashard Lewis or the European SF (forgot his name) they had and that’s actually a kind of scary team

Good drafting organizations particularly, crazy that the Magic were only founded 1989 as part of an Expansion initiative.

35 plus years history is a baby org.

Wolves are the same and not as successful.

    Made Finals 2×.

Or just put grant hill. He wasn’t as good post injury but was still pretty good in the games he actually played

They were washed by the time they played for the Lakers. It seems unfair to put washed great players on an all-time franchise team. If we did it, Rick Barry would be on the team, but he struggled to hit double digits in scoring during the last two years of his career here. Same for Pippin and Barkley. I'm taking a leap by including Durant, but I think 2-3 years of old Durant will still be pretty good.

Too guard/wing heavy. Besides Wilt, who plays in the frontcourt? Is Barry your 4? Durant?

You must have Nate Thurmond on this team as a backup C at least.

Against the Rockets, they would have the advantage with Bird and Garnett/McHale. But we could play Olajuwon or Howard defensively at the 4 if needed and Sampson vs Garnett would be fun to watch. I'd take our guards over any of them, including Havlicek and Cousy (who is vastly underrated by modern eyes). Russell is a smaller poor man's Olajuwon, Cowens is undersized, and Parish was a good center who I think is overrated in large part because of the team he played on. For instance, he never cracked 20 ppg and only averaged 14 ppg for his career. Similar story with rebounding and blocks when compared to great centers. None of those guys is guarding Yao, much less Dream. And then there's Moses.

If you are using any player that has played with a team based on their best seasons, then most every team that has had some success would put up a great team. Like, the Wizards can put Michael Jordan on their all-time team.

Anyways, seems like Philly hasn't been mentioned yet. Dr. J, Barkley, Moses, AI, Wilt, Hal Greer, Mutumbo, Embiid, Harden, Butler, Iguodala
