Nice try. I specifically and clearly said I never respond to your posts. Never. Any stupid idea or concept or opinion from your brain about Rockets basketball I don’t read them. I do not engage unless you attack or respond to me. Your personal mission to respond to my posts shows you’re a pu$$y

Lol again that’s in your mind. All of this is. Just like how you accuse me of never being wrong. Never said that. often smaller, weaker, insecure people hate those opposite to them and accuse them of being “a know it all” or “tough guy”. People vocalize their insecurities. Your words and thoughts reflect this. Remember You’re the one that made it personal thru a keyboard.

Is the direction of the team a very specific thing? Tank vs rebuild while being competitive seems like a very important decision on the heels of Yao retiring.

I think Rockets were in some weird phases those post Yao years. kind of like Miami last couple years. Not good enough to be title contender but still have a few good players and can still compete for a shot at the playoffs.

One interesting thing is They tried to make a move for Gasol for some reason in 2012 before the Harden trade. Maybe to pair with Harden. But then again Kevin Martin was part of that deal so maybe they wouldn’t have received Harden if they got Gasol?

The gasol thing was asinine, idk what that was about or who thought it was a good idea. At the end of the day though you have to ask yourself if you think Morey is pro or anti analytics ("old school"). Any pro analytics person understands that tanking is the best way to build a great team (nothing is guaranteed, all you can do is maximize your odds). It's an impossibility for you to think that 1. Morey believes in analyticis and 2. he didn't want to tank. Those two things are direct contradictions.

Or maybe there is a third possibility he could adopt an aggressive style which has been clearly documented while maintaining an analytics approach to evaluating players. This came straight from his mouth:

“Until you have your foundational players, your franchise should be in a state of flux. You need to keep trading and moving players until you get to that point,” he said.

“You don’t fool yourself, you take a lot of chances, you cut your losses quickly. That’s all you can do.”

    @astrosrule

    https://www.nba.com/rockets/news/daryl_morey_breaks_down_the_ro_2011_02_24.html

This article from the 2011-2012 season illustrates what I talked about with them being in a lukewarm stage. They were a fringe team but still had playoff hopes. Shows Morey’s thinking:

“What we’re doing right now is right now we’re in a playoff hunt and we’re going to continue to push in the playoff hunt. We need guys to step up to do that. That means, while we’re in the playoff hunt, we are not going to pick in the top-5 of the draft.”

“We were juggling a couple trades we thought could make us better in a hurry and get to the point where, maybe we’re not the favorites in the West, but we’ve got a real shot at winning a round in the playoffs”

This may explain why they tried to push for Gasol and why they traded for Harden.

Well ya that’s the whole point, he’s a soldier doing what he’s told to do. GM’s don’t have carte blanche to do what they want, only the owner does. His quotes will always support the owner, he’s not a moron. What he says has nothing to do with how he actually thinks. You have to apply some logic to things, a person who’s entire philosophy is analytics will NEVER want to build through the middle, it’s the polar opposite of analytic thinking.

We don't need to explain why they tried to push for Gasol. We were there, we know. They were desperate for any star before we got Harden, we also had big pushes for Chris Bosh and Melo when he was still a star. Morey had to tread water for years in the last injury Yao years and the time right after. If there was a chance a star was available then we were probably interested. There was just more talk/push when it seemed like it could actually happen. We're talking a time when some of the most "exciting" things that were going on were things like Aaron Brooks winning MIP or Chase Budinger jumped over Diddy in the dunk contest. It wasn't some big secret, everything was widely reported and discussed. We don't need to try and overanalyse it to figure it out like we're studying a book in English Lit and trying to project made up reasoning into an author's words lol.

That’s one way to look at it. I never said cart blanche. Every team is different in their approach. I simply weigh what’s been reported to the public and whether it’s consistent with actions and events. I never said either or. I said plainly there’s a lot of gaps we don’t know and not much information either way. Anyone can say anything but what do their actions show? Are these actions consistent with the words? What about sources corroborating this? All this factors into analysis and forming an assessment or opinion in some cases.

Right, which is where the logic part of it comes in, that’s the part you are going against 100%. It is simply impossible for morey to believe in analytics AND to have WANTED to build from the middle. Morey will never say it publicly so the “smoking gun” so to speak you have been looking for doesn’t exist. Like Morey even publicly defended the Westbrook trade, and certainly nobody thinks that HE made that decision.

We don’t need to have this fan site or discuss trades that will never happen, or why we think player A is better than player B or why we think this coach sucks etc. but we choose to. I responded to a fan who brought up the post yao era. The response I received was about 2 options in thinking about morey’s approach and I simply responded.

Really strange response, not sure how to respond if I'm honest, it's a bit like conversing with a robot or AI or something. Discussing actual things that happen makes sense, making up alternative histories because you can't find enough articles to convince you things happened...yeah, not so much.

Im not going against nothing dude. I take a logical approach. I can see both sides to this. If another fan says you are a pro NBA player I would ask where he got that info from. You could be. who knows? If he sends me some articles that don’t directly cite the sources or sound like opinions then it doesn’t quite support the statement. Doesn’t mean it’s not true. Just means the supporting info is weak. A few of you firmly believe this happened. Great. I don’t dispute that. But I see some info that provides a different narrative and also I can’t find any info that clearly states this is actually what happened until the ringer article. Anyway Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and opinions. At the end of the day its just a fan site about a sport.

That’s where we disagree. Your stance requires a belief that Morey is actually anti analytics, which i think is ludicrous. You’re going against logic, not with it.

I know it’s hard for you but did I disrespect you? Please stop this. Unnecessary. The response was specifically about your logic of why I discussed the post yao era. I made up Nothing. Both scenarios are plausible and I simply questioned the reporting on a fan’s statement. In law you can’t defend a client without supporting information and sound logic. The same applies to journalism. You believing in your opinion is your reality. That’s your choice. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Why making a fuss about it......even if you don't believe it (everything states Les wanted to at least win big chunk of games).....

    1. The Rockets were never really that bad to tank.
    2. The tanking options were not great during the Morey era, yeah you had AD and Kyrie but those were hardly Number 1 Options.
    3. Then you had years like Andrew Wiggins draft years of absolutely nothing much.
    4. If you can't identify Joker or Giannis, you are out of your depth.

There is no logic in making stuff up because you can't believe the truth. Sorry. Logic isn't an opinion. Don't tell me to stop, I'm not telling you to stop your weird nonsensical waste of time, just questioning it.

I will say executive of the year is a weird award. Mostly, guys that win it have been good for a while and decisions they made before the year and a little luck are why they win it. The Rockets have been available for a star for a few years. The Rockets cap has been well manicured such that as soon as they could get a star they could jam.

I expect Durant is going to get a lot of credit for the Rockets winning a lot this year. Most of it will be deserved, but a good portion of the credit should go to the guys that were already here.

Now, if there was an award for worst executive...yeah, that would usually go to the guy that made the stupidest move.
