If they’re already saying he’s down for 3 weeks minimum, he’s very likely done for the year. Mild sprains usually heal within 2 weeks, more severe sprains have a much wider range of recovery times, but the good news is he will likely be fine for next season unless it’s really on the severe end and he has surgery with setbacks. Needless to say, his days of throwing multiple innings should be ****ing over.
We got sooo lucky in 2022... Framber, Verlander, Urquidy, Garcia, Javier all with 25 starts each. Plus Odorizzi with 12. (And Lance with 8). According to Bref, McCullers's most similar comp is... Mark Prior.
Well at least we have some news on Hader... not the worst but also not the best. Things still up in the air. Just saw Kyle Tucker is slumping pretty badly for CHI. Apparently Tucker had a scalding hot start but has a bad second half so far.
Kyle Tucker last 92 games .248 BA 11 HRs 37 RBIs .763 OPS Ouch. Who's going to pay him 38 million a year?
That would be the fourth best OPS of qualified hitters on the Astros with a big gap to number 5. For the year he had a .835 OPS and over 4 WAR which would both be #2 behind Pena. He will get paid.
I am not going to be shocked if he is indeed out for the year, we can't seem to have nice things consistently. Abreau will be the closer but who's the bridge in the 7th and 8th? Do we kick the tires on Pressly
Some idiot team like SD-NY or LA, someone is going to pay him.......................I LOVE LOVE LOVE King Tuck, but we traded him at the right time and in hindsight we fleeced the Cubs. I have no clue if we trade Framber, I really hope we keep him as SP Aces are rare, but if we do trade him another haul like the Tucker trade would be good
We already gave a resounding no to the question you posed, if reporting is accurate. I would do it, once you remove the Counsell sabotage outing where he gave up 9 runs, he's pitched well enough.
Yeah if he's a no show once again in the playoffs, you can't come close to paying top dollar for him. 30 million per is the max I would go. But the number will end up much closer to 40 million.
Framber unfortunately is a free agent. He's the first player I've come to the conclusion you must pay, even if you overpay. He leads the majors in IP per start (that's huge) and he's never injured. You go out and get a replacement for him, the likelihood is much greater that pitcher is gonna get injured a whole lot more than Framber.
Abreu is solid. Sousa has been very very good the last month, as has Ort. King and Okert were very good earlier in the year but have gotten a little roughed up lately. Dubin got brutalized in his first appearance back from injury but before that he was amazing. Bottom line is that Abreu is now the closer and those other 5 guys are vying for the setup roles. It is too late to add anyone meaningful from outside so they will just have to hope they have enough hot hands going into the playoffs. I am optimistic, especially considering that they’ll probably have some extra SP who can go to the pen in October.
Lots of teams who don't use half-season sample sizes. This is funny: Framber's playoff history is probably worse than Tucker. Except that Tucker just doesn't help the offense, while starting pitcher implosions directly lead to losses.
This tells me that his first opinion was something torn that needed surgery and he got a second opinion that suggested it was a "sprain"...which is a type of tear, that could potentially be managed with rehab and rest. My guess is 2 weeks from now, we'll hear that he's not progressing and will get the surgery.
^^^THIS^^^ He had no business pitching him two innings (36 pitches) last Friday night against the Yankees.
He had pitched 2 total innings in the previous 9 days (4 days apart) with 2 days off since his last outing, and threw 8 pitches in the first of those two innings. He was plenty rested in that scenario. Beyond that, the Astros two best relievers were already used in what people were whining about as a must win game. If some middle-reliever had come in and blown the game in the 10th, people would have been complaining about that too.
if the OFFENSE would show up for consecutive games then there will be no need for a closer.... blow out games from here on out!
