    Dylan Howard @ Winston-Salem: 5 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K

A nice Asheville debut for Howard, who was the Astros' 8th-round pick out of Radford in last year's draft.

I don’t know man- it’s easy to say that someone wouldn’t but that’s a lot of money to turn down. If Matthew’s started striking out 15% or less or something like that in triple A I might think about it. Alvarez someday? Maybe.

2-3 years from now Neyens or Alvarez might be in that position. I wouldn’t expect Neyens to accept that.

A ton of these kids, especially the ones who were highly drafted, have so much confidence in themselves. As long as there are guys getting $700M, $600M, $300M every offseason, they think they can get it too.

    Yeah...they may not be wrong.

Dodgers do an insanely good job of signing/drafting/developing. And they spend a lot of money to do it.

Astros were winning Championships in the Minor Leagues a Decade ago and weren't even Top 10.

Astros still getting Prospects to replace Star Players and still in Playoff Contention for years since 2015.

They are very good at scouting and development - and the amount of money they spend across the board is a big reason why. They pay their scouts, coaches and staff very well - they give very good allowances, they have excellent health/training facilities.

I brought up recently the possibility of the Astros deciding to spend less money in free agency and using the money to increase their scouting and player development situation.

Sami Manzueta hit his 5th home run of the year for the DSL Blue team. That's a new record for a 16-year-old in the Astros system; Eduardo Perez hit 4 in 2023 for the Orange team.

In the past 5 seasons, only 4 players age 16 have hit 5 HR in a DSL season. One of them was the Orioles’ Samuel Basallo, who is a top 10 prospect in all of baseball.

Yep. When you spend money, you don't have to trade prospects for players. The Dodgers unfortunately do a great job using their chip stack in a variety of ways to lean on the small stacks.

Seems like he has a deceptive delivery.

You think they’d offer a Wheeler like 3 year really high AAV contract to Framber?

There’s really not too many other comparisons to the overall durability and effectiveness Framber has shown and the Astros seem to have figured out how to deal with his mental / focus issues.

Solid night for Ethan Frey as he's driven in 3 for Fayetteville... the first RBI came on a groundout, then he hit two RBI doubles. Brandon Forrester is 2-4 with a triple, an RBI single, and two runs scored.

Would they? I don’t know about 3 - maybe. I don’t think Framber would take it though. I think that he had been conditioned by his agent to get the longest deal possible.

Don’t sleep on Frey as an athlete. He isn’t some oaf like Castellanos or ever Schwarber - Frey is an athlete and can certainly play the field at LF/RF and his range is better than he is given credit for.

May be the next great arm coming out of the worst farm system in MLB.
