Wider, lower, and does a toe tap instead of any leg movement. its very different from where he started the year.

Dodgers bullpen is an unmitigated disaster.

I was totally shocked they did not go out and get either a high leverage reliever or even moreso a legit closer at the deadline.

That team is not coming close to winning a World Series.

The Angels with a 6 game sweep of the Dodgers, first time in their history.

    You love to see it.

    Padres leaders of the division.

Padres will spend 400M and once again get run out of the postseason in the WC or NLDS?

Or do like 2022 and get to the NLCS?

Padres have a lower payroll than the Astros at $215M.

You're thinking of the Dodgers who are north of 400M if they didn't utilize this bullshit deferred payment of Ohtani.

Never understand why folk pile in on Yainer when things get sticky for us as a team. Still, they even have done over the years on Altuve so one shouldn’t be too surprised I guess.

    I think Yainer Diaz is a 30 - 40 HR 100 RBI

Not having Yordan Alvarez most of the Season and now Isaac Paredes hurt the Lineup balance.

Yainer has not been a good hitter this year, but seems to be heating up at the right time. The fact is that his potential as a hitter for the position he plays is off the charts and the Astros would be crazy to lose him. If he was a 1b or DH, then he wouldn’t be anything special.

Dusty/maldy lovers are the main culprits

I love Yainer but most of this year has been rough, it's good to see him heating up though.

If Yainer gets any kind of plate discipline, I could easily see him being a 30/40 HR guy.

I can’t remember for sure but I think @Nook said something like Yainer hasn’t really improved much on his hitting approach or discipline, but it makes sense when you watch him.

To the earlier point, Yainer is someone that would benefit immensely as a free swinger with more protection in the lineup...

LOL, I don't think you need an insider to come to that conclusion. He has one of the worst "see ball, hit ball" approaches I've ever seen. There's absolutely no plan whatsoever, like a dog chasing a bone.

When you have a gift for hard contact like he does you can still be a plus hitter with that approach, but your ceiling will be pretty low

It has been rough this year. He did just surpass his HR total from last year already, so that’s a positive. Also, he is so vastly superior to our last catcher in every facet of the game, even when having a rough season. Dusty lovers are always the ones to **** on Diaz the most. They still want to somehow justify how Dusty threw away the 2023 pennant.

Diaz had a really poor start, everyone was talking about Walker but Diaz had a 500 OPS in April and he has been trying to dig himself out ever since then. He has been better overall since then at the plate and is even now a good hitting catcher. If he can develop some plate disciple, he has a chance to be a star as a catcher, as he has a lot of power and bat speed.

I wouldn't look to replace Diaz, as I think he is pretty good overall and I don't think he has reached his peak offensively. Would I listen if a team was willing to offer me a lot for him? Yeah I would. Most of the my issues with him are the stolen bases, but I am not even sure most of that is on him. I think it is organizational.

Diaz isn't the Astros problem. He is healthy, durable, does as he is asked behind the plate and even with a crappy approach hits better than 75% of the starting catchers.

I agree wholeheartedly that (1) the diaz hit and power tools swamp any defensive liabilities and (2) that some of the base stealing is on the org and its pitchers. Still, wtf with his pop time: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/poptime. It's not just that it's awful, it's that it's declining. Arm strength is above average which keeps him afloat: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/lead...ll&sortColumn=arm_strength&sortDirection=desc.

Last offseason, they went out and literally paid top dollar to

In 2025, they are paying (AAV): Tanner Scott $15.8M, Kirby Yates $13M, Blake Treinen $11M.

Plus they traded for Michael Kopech and Alexis Diaz last year. They have the highest payroll ever so how much more help do they need??

For a team that, according to the national media, has an elite farm system and player development system, they sure do need a lot of external help!
