My biggest concern this series is the bullpen. The leverage guys were used very heavily in the last series, and we have two rehabbing pitchers starting. I hope Espada has a long relief option ready - personally I would have skipped Blubaugh’s last ML start and had him up here to piggy back. Also, WWW.
We're going to have to be patient while these guys returning from injury shake off the rust and get their footing. We'll likely have to sacrifice some games, and possibly the division, in order to get these guys sharp for a postseason run. Big picture, I'd rather have to survive a Wild Card series with a healthy, deep, pitching staff than go into the ALDS without them.
I don't like it but Gordon is fresh. If he is needed today, he can he optioned and a fresh arm brought up. That fresh arm may be Dubin. I don't like him in multi-innigs, but he is the best option for a single inning. As a reliever, he should he sufficiently rehabbed. Unless he had a setback, roster issues would be the only reason he stays down.
I've not been happy at all with Gordon over Blubaugh on the year. I know Blubaugh has had some struggles at AAA (no idea why) but I'd have preferred to see a real shot at him having 5 or 6 starts b/c he has a lot more swing and miss than the other guys. Not having him available the next 2 days for length is a puzzling and odd decision. Dubin being ready to throw 2 tomorrow would be nice. Gordon would be my long relief guy today and then optioned if he pitches 2 or 3 innings tonight and Dubin brought up for tomorrow to be ready to throw 2. If those guys were each available to throw 2 or 3 that seems to take care of 6 innings and then it's a regular bullpen game, imo.
Mariners nipping at our heels. Must respond. Get through this series and 4 of the next 5 series are Baltimore twice, Colorado, & The Angels w/ Detroit the lone challenge
I have an idea why, and it rhymes with talks. Walter, Alexander, Dubin, the guys we've had success bringing up from AAA have all had the ability to limit walks. VanWey, Whitley, Contreras, the guys who've struggled have not had the ability. Gordon fits the former category and Blubaugh, the latter.
Correa first game back Lot of districts back in school today which may limit the crowd a bit, but it should be loud and rowdy 4 Strong innings from Javier would be awesome Sweep these b****es
Look man, I don't think he allows near enough baserunners nor has a near shitty enough move to be done in by Balks. I just don't see that as super likely, ok?!?!?! Alexander has walked a bunch of guys (or did yesterday anyway) it seemed like and been ok. Walter is like maddux like in his lack of walks.
