I mean just like fat girls need loving too so do first basemen. Yordan might be the only human being of certain athleticism I’ve ever heard of too fragile to play first. So, there’s always that as a fallback position.
Next time you are at a MLB baseball game, watch the first baseman pre-pitch. First base is hard on the knees.
He is between 6’4” and 6’5” and he is 17 years old and like 175 lbs soaking wet. It’s very hard to really speculate on him long term because at his age - he could stay his height or grown another 3-4 inches. I’m not saying he will be this good, but watching him move - he reminds me of Daryl Strawberry.
Nick Monistere and Ethan Frey both finished with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored in Fayetteville's 10-4 win in Delmarva. Anthony Huezo stole two bases and scored three times.
Sami Manzueta had a huge day as he went 3-5 with 6 RBI in the DSL Blue team's 15-10 win over the Orioles Black. Manzueta had an RBI double, an RBI single, a sac fly, and a three-run homer, his 4th of the season. Yensi De La Cruz went 4-4 and drove in 4 for the Orange team as they beat the Guardians' Goryl team 11-6. He drew a bases-loaded walk, hit an RBI single, and capped off the morning with a two-run blast for his 4th home run of the year. Diego Campos also drove in 4, but he did so with a bases-clearing double and a sac fly.
This is... a delivery Jesus Carrera is a 20-year-old RHP from Mexico who was making his Fayetteville debut after going 2-0 with an 0.98 ERA in the FCL. He walked 3 and struck out 33 in 18.1 innings in West Palm Beach.
I know. And yet through the entire history of time (before the designated hitter) that’s where the fastest and least athletic slob was placed.
Huezo’s bat looks pretty quick and he looks like a pretty good athlete. Might be a big breakout candidate next season.
he turns his hips really fast with a lot of torso flexibility. I don't know if that is good or bad. What's up with him having one PA in Sugarland. That's weird for a 19 year old that just got promoted to A ball.
That happens. Sometimes a team in the upper levels will get shorthanded due to injuries or a trickledown from the big league roster moves and they’ll need a guy to come up and fill in for a game or two.
Fayetteville beat Delmarva 1-0 today and they had a no-hitter going until it was broken up with two outs in the 8th. Joan Ogando: 5 IP, 4 BB, 9 K Eurys Martich: 3 IP, H, 2 BB, 7 K Ryan Smith: IP, H; stranded runners on 2nd & 3rd to end game
My current list of top 5 2026 sleeper candidates, position players: OF Anthony Huezo: 50 pa into A ball and he's looking like a stud. 10% bb, 17% k, and regularly posts triple digit EV. Will only be 20 next season. IF Sami Manzueta: as a 16 year old in the DSL he's walked more than he's struck out and hit 4 HR in 40 games while adding 7 SB. He probably can't come over to the US for another year but I'm as excited about him and Kevin Alvarez as I've ever been about any DSL prospects. IF Alberto Hernandez: Yes, he's been a below-average hitter in A ball at age 21 in a repeat season. But he has very high defensive value, speed, and posts a low k rate. The bar for him to improve enough to be a big league utility player is pretty low. OF/2B Yamal Encarnacion: 50 pa into High A and he's walking about as much as he's striking out. He's got elite speed, and he's playing more RF and CF this season than year's past. He's a very hard prospect to evaluate because of how sporadic his playing time has been, but if he's assigned to AA to start next year he will have a real opportunity to break out. LF Colin Barber: He's 150 pa into AAA and been well below average there, but his k/bb numbers are there, plus he's got baserunning and defensive value. At 24, next season will likely be the end of the line, but if he can find a way to tap into more extra-base/HR power, he will be a player.
IT was dumb that he was doing that instead of in Houston waiting to pitch in long relief if one of the other guys blows up, but it's nice to see that he's gotten his season back on the rails and watching him be what I envisioned in Miami against the Marlins was a good and positive step in 2025. I think he's a guy we are going to count on in 2026.
