On episode 3. Agree with everyone on the voices + feeling like you fall right back into the groove. IMO this is trending as better than the original show, perhaps due to less episodes (less filler).

Sunny in Philly also feels like the old days this season.

Maybe they fed old scripts to AI and that's why things feel so on point again.

Put me in the the camp that recasting Kahn was a terrible choice. If they had to do it they could have found a good Asian voice actor who at least got in the ballpark. Instead they just got lazy and picked an Asian celebrity.

Same with Dale, although their hands were obviously forced on that one. You don't realize how big a role Hardwick played in Dale's humor until hes not there. The delivery just doesn't hit nearly the same.

Those VA issues aside, I thought it was an amazing season. Given their likely demographic, they had to tow a tricky social line and they managed to do it well. The characters aged but still mostly felt like themselves with interesting new dynamics ,something a lot of zombie series fail to do.

I watched the first episode, and it just made me feel old, which I don't think is a winning formula for attracting viewers.

Poke weed needs to be cooked to be edible.

Here is what Google AI says about the taste

Pokeweed, also known as poke sallet or polk salad, has a taste that is often described as
similar to spinach or turnip greens, but with a slight iron or mineral aftertaste.

In the episode it was Hawaiian Poke, like raw fish with sauce.

im only two episodes in so maybe its addressed this season, but i was wondering about the timeline in terms of bobby. he is 21 now and it sounds like hank and peg-leg were in saudi since before covid so did bobby go with them and finish high school there before coming back ahead of them?

do they address that at any point?

I didn't see it, so Pokeweed was my first thought.

    There is also...

    Strawberry Poke Cake

How to Make Strawberry Poke Cake
Here’s how to make this Jell-O® poke cake recipe.

    1. Make and Bake Cake
Combine the cake mix and the water, oil, and egg whites (save the yolks for another recipe) called for on the box. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth—about 2 minutes (set a timer). Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    2. Make Jell-O® Mixture

While the cake is cooling, pour boiling water over the gelatin and whisk until dissolved. Using less water than the box suggests thickens the mixture for the pokes.

    3. Pour Jell-O® Mixture on Cake
Poke the cake with the handle of a wooden spoon every inch—aim for 25 to 30 pokes. Slowly pour the gelatin mixture over the cake, ensuring it soaks in evenly.

    4. Frost Cake and Add Strawberries
Stir the frosting to loosen. Spread frosting in just one direction over the strawberry poke cake using long strokes. Using a back-and-forth motion often causes the top layer of cake to come off, leaving crumbs in the frosting. Top each slice with a halved strawberry before serving.

    Here's what I read:

    https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/l...huss/287-4a07adb3-4d6f-474b-bd3f-2820d538bf66

Hardwick is credited with Gribble's voice in six episodes on the new season, including the first three episodes and then episodes 5-7, according to IMBD. Toby Huss, who previously voiced characters Cotton Hill and Hank's neighbor Khan Souphanousinphone, is credited with voicing Gribble on two episodes of the new season, the season premiere and episode No. 10.

That's interesting because I hear Huss' voice a lot more than Hardwick during the 10 episode run....

Hardwick’s Dale has sinus problems. It is unclear how he died, but the stuffed nose might be due to his illness or if he was using drugs at the time.

I just finished it and I was pleasantly surprised if not impressed.

Watching it felt like putting on a favorite old t-shirt. They kept the soul of the show in tact even after such a long break and the time skip. That's truly commendable. The writing is topical yet not obnoxiously so. Lots of references to the modern day, but they do it in a way that feels natural and not forced. What's most impressive to me is how they managed to age the kids yet keep them interesting, funny, and relevant.

It wasn't all roses though. They have some work to do on Dale because he's so heavily relied upon to antagonize and move plots forward, but I have faith they'll get it right. Kahn is a total lost cause. Like legit start over from scratch level disaster. Switch VAs or sunset the character. I really hope that Willow is a recurring character, too. She was a welcome addition and her exit was far too abrupt.

Hardwick sounds rough in the episodes he did do, too. Like he had some kind of respiratory problem in the intervening years, or took up smoking or something.

The setting is only about 8-9 years after the storyline of the first 13 seasons as Bobby is 21. Don't like the conflicting ignorance and stubbornness of the Hills despite having travelled the world, particularly the Middle East, for years. But I guess that's what makes the series so charming.

I just finished episode 5, the soccer episode. Probably had the biggest laughs so far during Dale's interrogation and the cuts to Bill.

It feels like they haven't missed a beat so far to me. It still feels like true King of the Hill in spirit and charm. I haven't noticed many issues with Dale's voice.

I thought this reboot was great.

For the record, I had only watched a handful of episodes before this new season.

It's really sad two of the actors died, especially the one murdered a couple of months ago.
