If Texas Republicans drew maps like Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Mexico Democrats, then there would be 13 less Democrats in DC. GOOD DAY
Great, now do all the other states. Nationwide, Republicans are benefitting more in the House than Democrats from gerrymandering. If gerrymandering didn't exist, the House would be Democratic right now. Not that I'm saying these Blue States are justified to gerrymander. None of it is acceptable in my eyes. I would prefer if they did away with map drawing altogether, which is a moral hazard for politicians.
The Texas Constitution requires the legislature to redistrict Texas house and senate seats during its first regular session following publication of each United States decennial census (Section 28, Article III). After each census, State Board of Education seats also must be redistricted to bring them into compliance with the one‐person, one‐vote requirement. How long has it been since the last census? What is the honest justification for redistricting now?
Without gerrymandering SJL, Barbara Jordan etc .. would have never been elected to their seats in Congress.
The Dems setup the rules and gerrymandered districts when they were in charge. Now the shoes on the other foot and I'm enjoying seeing them drown in their liberal tears. It's quite entertaining. What goes around comes around.
Except that the last redistricting was sign into law by Abbott in 2021. So I guess the only justification is that President Trump ask for 5 more midterm seats out of Texas.
Well the voters in Texas voted for Trump in record numbers to carry out his agenda. So state representation should reflect what the voters voted for.
This fight is all political and I'm not ready yet to jump into the explanation and history teaching mode - is still summer. There's a great podcast series from 538 called the gerrymandering project back from 2018 if anyone is truly interested in learning about it. As for your point, look up the Trump vote and look up the Harris vote. Then look up the down ticket votes. Trump out performs all Texas Republicans in vote share, yet the percentage of Republican representation is higher than Trump's vote share. So Texas is gerrymandered in favor of Republicans already and has been for 20 years. And Dems did it in the 80s. I'm not saying it's right or wrong and I'm not ready to get into it. And Texas isn't the worst offender.
Maybe you should check out the "my hair's on fire" thread as you seem quite worked up today. More so than usual. Does the president and Epstein have you thinking of children's genitals a lot?
In the last 10 years or so thanks to big data and data visualization they've gone from being butchers to being cardiothoracic surgeons. They've been trying it forever but now they can drill down to the granularity of individual households in a way they couldn't 20 years ago. The intent is the same but the weapons they are using are much more deadly than they used to be.
