I can’t believe I haven’t noticed this yet, but the Astros have a pitcher in their system named Railin Perez and an infielder named Reylin Perez.
Who I’d pick for Arizona Fall League: C Jancel Villarroel IF Caden Powell OF Kenni Gomez UT Tyler Whitaker P Luis Rodriguez P Hudson Leach
The 2025 draftees have had a hand in all 4 Fayetteville runs so far. Zach Daudet opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 2nd that brought Kyle Walker in. Daudet wound up scoring on a Chase Call single. Call would score on a base hit from Ethan Frey. Daudet hit another RBI single that brought in Nick Monistere in the 3rd.
Kevin Alvarez had a triple and an RBI single in the DSL Blue team's 4-3 loss to the Orioles' Black team. Meanwhile, the Orange team smacked the Red Sox's Blue team 12-3 as they got 15 hits. Anthony Millan went 4-5 with a triple, a two-run single, and scored twice. Anderson Arenaimo finished 3-5 with a double, an RBI single, and scored twice. Pablo Martinez finished 2-5 with a solo homer, the first of his career, and scored twice.
Going into tonight Wes Clarke is thru 149 AA pa with the Astros and has walked more than he’s struck out, with 7 HR. I’m hoping he gets a long look in AAA next season.
He got a decent look in AAA when he was Milwaukee and it looks like he wasn't horrid. Surprised the Astros didn't send him to Sugar Land when they picked him off the Brewers' scrap heap.
Three Asheville relievers combined to allow an unearned run on three hits, walked two, and struck out 13 in five innings. Ramsey David: 2.2 IP, H, BB, 6 K Colby Langford: 1.1 IP, H, BB, 4 K Nate Wohlgemuth: IP, H, unearned run, 3 K All but one of David's seven appearances since he joined Asheville have been in relief. He's done alright in Fayetteville and his time in Asheville has gotten off to a good start, but he'll be 25 next year. Relief work might be David's one shot to get to the big leagues.
Nate Wohlgemuth 24 years old 2024 graduate, not drafted Started 2025 in Independent ball Signed mid June with the Astros Month in FCL Now is A+ Asheville If Luhnow was still around, someone would be mentioning "exploiting market inefficiencies" of recent grads in Independent ball. That late movement on a 95+ fastball might be his ticket to The Show.
Does he have one more pitch? Like 2 being more than one? He screams reliever, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Every time I see a UDFA older RP I think about Daniel Meszaros. Made it to AA in his first full season. I thought for sure he would be a big league setup man. But he couldn’t make it past AAA and was let go the next year.
Just imagine the stories that Danny* can tell the rest of his life about those brilliant two years** he spent in minor league ball. * Drafted by the Houston Astros in the 48th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft ** four years actually
