What’s the thinking on Genesis Gv70 and GV80? Do they live up to the hype and accolades?

Seems they are the best value in luxury SUV market. Warranty forever. Nice looking enough too.

Are they still doing 4k hidden mark-ups when you buy a car?

We bought a mini van recently. For the Sienna, they definitely add in all the aftermarket non-sense. Nitrogen, wheel locks, window tent, etc. Lowest we could find was $2,500 added on. But we didn't see a ton of stuff just "market adjustment".

We ended up buying a Honda Odyssey because we got below invoice and all the other nonsense for free.

I used to know the ins-and-outs of buying new or used cars, but things have changed dramatically.

What are some the tricks and secrets to buying a car now without getting ripped off?

I poked around at the Pacifica and the Carnival, but ended up with the finalists being the Telluride and the Sienna. The final step of the research process turned out to be the most pivotal. We rented a Telluride and a Sienna from Turo and drove them for a weekend a piece (about 250 bucks all in, money well spent IMO).

The entire family agreed, the Telluride was the far better vehicle.

The Sienna just feels old. Like old old. Two generations+ behind in tech. The gas mileage is amazing and the ride is smooth, but literally everything else about the car just fell flat. It wasn't anti-minivan bias, either. I went into this wanting a minivan, but I can't justify spending that much (no way I was going with a used Sienna) I want something that has more polish and bells/whistles.

I ended up getting a 2024 SX PRESTIGE XPRO w/ 20K miles. Previous owner got DOGE'd out of a job and ended up trading down back to the original dealer for something more affordable. His loss is my gain I suppose.

I used a car shopping concierge service called CarEdge.com to negotiate the deal for me. It was 250 bucks and they got me 3k off the price. Honestly worth every penny and they handled everything. All I had to do was walk into the dealership, sign the paperwork and drive it home.

The same as always, be willing to walk away. Don’t go looking for a car when you’re desperate.

Dropped my sister off at the airport in her 2024 sienna.
The infotainment is pathetic. Looks like it’s from 2002.

someone in the 3rd row took off their seatbelt when I was on the highway and the car went CRAZY with the warnings. Screaming at me like I had dual engine failure on takeoff.

you really are buying it for the minivan aspect of it. Sliding doors. Easy to get in and out of. Great MPG. Storage.

Absolutely. Toyota has gotten extremely lazy beyond their flagship products. The customer loyalty they enjoy has really hurt their drive to innovate it seems.

In retrospect I probably didn't give the Carnival enough credit. I guess I felt like if I wasn't gonna get AWD or great MPG what was the actual benefit over the Telluride? But the vehicle itself is very nice. I know many fellow parents who have one and love it, but it really seems to be more for adult comfort than families.

The family vehicle market is pathetic and I'm afraid it's only getting worse.
