Are they swinging at strikes though? The mantra (if there is such a thing) in baseball is to swing (and hopefully hit) hittable pitches. The Astros inability to hit hittable pitches is a combination of the talent most of this lineup has, some continued season-wide inconsistencies (Diaz, Walker) and maybe some of the opponent's defense.
Walker missing a middle middle FB on a 2-0 count. Diaz doing very little with a hanging slider. Gotta hit mistakes.
Well our rapidly shrinking lead on the division says we have been a little worse. We have sucked horribly tbh
Def not and that’s a big part of the problem. I read Espada really stressed being super aggressive which maybe for some of our players’ tendencies to not control the strike zone, not the most sage advice. To your point We seem to consistently miss meatballs down the middle. But then shouldn’t Espada adjust? Maybe more small ball especially given the dearth of power and lots of singles to avoid DPs etc
Embarrassing performance hang your heads in shame for playing like ****ing losers. That’s what Joe should say to them. Nothing more needs to be said.
You're acting like he's playing a video game and selecting when to swing... Swinging at strikes has always been the approach. When they swing early in the count, its usually at strikes/hittable pitches. When they put together runs of hits/big innings when swinging early you don't complain. When they watch hittable pitches go by and fall behind in the count, plenty of issues with that approach as well. They just have one too many hitters who (SPOILER ALERT)... that may not be an above average hitter in this game.
