Luka guaranteed himself some extra money, nothing surprising about his recent extension. I think he's looking at it as a trial run, I don't think he seems that confident in being a Laker lifer yet. It is a high pressure city that has an extremely toxic fanbase that has an unhealthy obsession with Kobe. They tend to turn on their own players very quickly if they don't win a championship. If they do perform at a high level they feel threatened that a player is taking away from Kobe's legacy. The Buss family has definitely held the franchise back, but having an ownership group with deep pockets does not mean as much when there is a salary cap. This is still one of the strangest trades in NBA history, the media and Luka's PR team is constantly reminding us he is happy, it feels like a hostage situation where they are trying to convince us he is still alive and healthy.
